Today SRO OT lost its best Showdown player, and we all lost a great friend. About a year ago Tim was diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer that had already metastacized. Several rounds of chemo didn't do any good, and the doctors at M.D. Anderson gave up on him. However, Tim sought out another treatment from Cancer Center of America in Tulsa, and that worked well enough that he got his hair back and looked better, and as late as just a few weeks ago was able to play with us in the Sandbagger's Tournament through the night we got eliminated. So it came as a shock when we heard a couple of weeks ago that the Tulsa doctors said there was nothing else to be done and it was just a matter of time.
I've known Tim going back before the first McCarthy Cup, but it has only been in the last few years that I had the privilege of playing with him regularly. His wit, his curiosity, and of course his seemingly endless knowledge of geography, history, literature, etc. has been missed these past few weeks, and now will be missed forever.
