It is with a heavy heart that I write this post about the passing of fellow Tampa trivia player and good friend Bob Blake. As anyone who knew Bob can attest, he was a wonderful person and had a fantastic sense of humor. He also was an avid trivia player.

I am glad to have had the pleasure of knowing Bob for the past 16 plus years. He will truly be missed.

Well, hell. Though I had the honor of banging away with Sweet Old Bob only twice, there was no better host, gentleman, and ambassador of this game. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to his family and fellow players in Tampa.

Sorry to hear that. Condolences to his friends and family from us at Adam's Mill. I never met him but saw him on the boards and he was a great contributor here and with great reviews on the BT site. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear about this, and my condolences!

I never met the man, but he was (as LILJOL said) a great ambassador to the NTN. He is already deeply missed.

We are heartbroken to hear this. We never had the pleasure of meeting Bob, though we tried when we were down there this past January. He understandably declined our invite, as he was just having surgery and recovering at the time. But, as others have found, his good humor and kind heart were obvious through postings here. Condolences and hugs to his friends and family.

So sorry to hear about this, my condolences.

Way back in another millennium, one of the first bashes was in Florida. As it turned out, I happened to win the Playback game they were there for at my local location. I knew Bob was taping the game, so I asked if I could get a copy. Not only did he send me one, he refused my offer to pay for the postage, saying I could get him a beer when I saw him. Unfortunately, we never did get together.

Still owe you a beer, Bob...

What a loss. I had the great good fortune to carry out extended correspondence and the occasional phone call with Bob over the years, mostly concerning various Showdown tournaments. He was unfailingly friendly and pleasant with me, even on those occasions when our team knocked his out and he might have reason to grumble. I only wish I had been able to meet him in person.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, both from me and from The Fellowship.

I also never got the pleasure of meeting SOB. I did correspond online a few times and he seemed to be a real gentleman. I did wish to meet up with him also. He will be missed.

Terrible news. I got a chance to play with Bob (at The Chase Club, I believe) and he was as good as a man as all the stories you may have heard about him. Great, great guy.

I had the pleasure of banging boards with S O B on a few occasions. Still remember the first time, at the old Bilmar Station. I made a good call on a Showdown question (don't even remember what it was now) and was immediately declared an honorary member of Bilmar's Famous Back Row.

I can't add anything else that hasn't already been said.

Some few years ago (10? 12?), I spent a few days in Tampa on business. I had seen Bobalouie's on the big board and took the $40 cab ride from my hotel to North Tampa, aka BFE.

My timing was impeccable because SOB was there. I had known of Bob through badbart, but this was my one and only meeting. That location played cutthroat, so our interactions were limited to discussions over game breaks. I discovered that Bob was from Cleveland, and like me, a long-suffering Browns fan (excuse the redundancy). I knew immediately that he was my kind of guy.

When it was time for me to head back to the hotel, he wouldn't hear of me taking a cab. He drove me back, even though it was out of his way. A class act, through and through.

Condolences to all who grieve for Bob. I will miss seeing that good old SOB on the big board.

Bob spent 6 months in the DFW area many years back and we introduced him to team trivia. He enjoyed it so much that he took what he learned and built a great team in Tampa that meets to this day. So even though he may be gone, his trivia legacy remains. And that's pretty cool.

I got to see him twice at Bilmar Station and was treated well both times. We traded many emails and texts over the years about various trivia and non-trivia matters. He was the one to answer the phone when his teammate TIGER needed a phone-a-room when on WWTBAM and came through with a $64k answer after emphatically telling Regis "she's a wonderful person!"

He was an excellent trivia player but an even better person. I will miss him.

p.s. I still refer to him by his original handle JJBBOB, and let's not forget NYDAVY referring to him as JJBOOBJOB!

Indeed. I was very pleased that they honored him in that way. What was the trophy he was holding?

I assume it's one of the traveling trophies

Bob is holding our local traveling trophy in the picture, something he was so proud of.

Our former local Buzztime rep (who has since moved to California) made the tribute happen. Bob's widow chose the photo, and I did the Facebook write up.

I love how much airtime Bob's picture is getting this week especially since it's the weekend of the Ohio bash.

I am just deeply saddened that Bob has passed away. My wife Susan and I had the great pleasure of meeting and playing with this wonderful man in 2012 at the Chase Club in Tampa. We made sure that we went there on thhat Friday just to meet and play with a true legend and ambassador to Buzztime. Bob and the folks there welcomed us in like we were regulars. We had such a gtreat time and I will always remember that time.

Rest in Peace Sweet Old Bob! We will miss seeing you on the boards! Condolences out to all of his family and friends.

David "Warzne" and Susan "Stigma" Martin Orlando, FL.
