New Scaratings

While I'm here, I should also pass on the news about REACH. On November 6 he fell from a ladder and suffered a catastrophic head injury, dying a couple of days later.

REACH was a very long-time NTN/BT player, a driving force behind the great Ottawa teams (including--but not limited to--New Edinburgh Pub, Buster's Bar, and Moose McGuire's), and also a force to be reckoned with in Canadian trivia/quizzing circles. He was unfailingly kind in my years of correspondence with him regarding various tournaments, and even generously included me on his team's email list. Condolences to his team and to the wider BT community that knew him for this loss.

Wow, such an unfortunate accident. Condolences to all who knew Reach in Canada and the US. He was a prominent poster in here of Showdown, Brainbuster and Glory Daze recaps for a good while. There are lot of games to re-read if anyone has time to bring back memories.

This is exactly why I asked him if I could be on his team email list: he continued to do selective Showdown recaps for them (just the Category or Lightning Round on, usually), along with meticulous explanations for each answer along with links to sources on each (and often his challenges to answers he thought were incorrect). They became even more meaningful to me ever since our exile from Showdown last summer--they were the only way I could keep up on what kinds of questions they were asking in the game.
