My wife Dorothy (DAR) heard from Lauren, the daughter of Bill Daly, this morning that Bill died on Saturday. He is known to trivia players as PNKPIG, played at three locations here in New York including Mad River, as well as several others in Boston area, where he lived. His funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Church in Sherborn, MA. I understand he had myelosdysplasia, which he could probably ID in an eighth of a second, but I cannot. He will be greatly missed by our team and many others.

Absolutely horrible news. A splendid gentleman and a damn fine trivia player.

From his last couple of posts I knew he wasn't well..but this is still a shocker.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and to his trivia friends at Mad River and elsewhere

That is terrible news. He was obviously a top notch trivia player, but I also enjoyed the good discussions we had about various topics on the BT forums.

Just terrible to read this news. Very, very sorry this has happened.

Bill posted a lot on the first version of this BB and was a valued member. I had always hoped to meet and share a game or two with him.

I had the good fortune of meeting Bill during a trip to NYC, circa 2002. Subsequently, I joined him on several other trips to that city. A class act and one of the best trivia players I've known. Condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by many.

Very sorry to see Bill go. As far as I was concerned, he was the #1 player in the NYC area. Great player, with an answer to almost any question; even if it wasn't right, you know it was something that had to be respected in a team play setting. I remember when he started playing at A&M Roadhouse, they quickly became one of the top Six teams. He was always pleasant to everyone, and I looked forward to the times the two of us would play, since we'd have most of the knowledge bases covered. Towards the end, he didn't let on too much about the severity of his illness; I'm sure he didn't want us to worry too much about him, he just wanted to play the game.

Bill, you will truly be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Bill (MEGUMI)

Like so many others, I am shocked and saddened by this terrible news. Thanks for letting us know, XTRAIN.

Sincerest condolences to his family and to his fellow teammates in New York. You will be in our thoughts tomorrow, and we will hoist a glass in his memory.

It is so sad to hear this. I wish I could have met him and played a few games with him.
I always enjoyed his posts here on Scaratings and the BT forums. I thought of him as a human encyclopedia. He will be missed and remembered.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Sorry to hear this. Was just talking about him last month with SAKIC, as PNKPIG visited his site in the Boston area. Had hoped to get a chance to play with him at some point. I hope his family and friends are doing well.

We have lost a good man whose brilliance was off the charts. Trivia games with him were an education for me - as he not only knew most of the answers - he could elaborate as to why they were so. I feel truly honored to have played quite a lot of trivia with him over the past (almost) two years. As Megumi said, he didn't really talk about his plight too much. That pretty much went along with his style - leave the worries of everyday to some other time - and enjoy playing trivia. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Thanks for the lessons Bill, on trivia and life.

Sad news indeed. While I had never met Bill in person, he had emailed many times over the many, many years he was on Badbart, Scar or the BT forums. He offered his skill in automating the gathering of scores for the Passport cup of years past among other ideas he had.

He was always an interesting and cantankerous read on the various forums, he will be missed.

Condolences to all family and friends.

The Fellowship at Damon's Twinsburg lifted a toast to him before the game tonight. Bravo to whoever it was at Jilly's who got PNKPIG onto the boards for Showdown.

Amen to ANON's post. Thanks to somebody at Jilly's who got Bill's handle up there tonight. We at Mad River were collectively giving it a try too, but a visitor who played with us under his own handle was our top player. Bill would have enjoyed the irony. Thanks to all who posted here.

I saw that too and was thinking, "WTG, Bill." But that was before I saw this thread.

Condolences to his family and friends.
