NELLAD's son Mark sent out a couple e-mails to people on Don's Yahoo friends list this week telling us that he had been taken to the hospital on 12/22 for complications with his COPD, that he declined "extraordinary measures" to prolong his life, and was taken to a hospice facility where he received visitors before passing away on Christmas Eve at age 81. Well, my Christmas Eve, anyway. Don was a Byzantine Rite Catholic who celebrated Christmas on January 6. Anyway, it was a peaceful and dignified passing for the grand old man of Detroit-area Buzztime Trivia.

Noticed his last played date is 12/23 so hopefully someone this coming week will play Speed Freaks with that handle thereby finishing card 16 and then rack up another 40k in P+ points to get him to 25MM. And if appropriate, work it out so he has exactly 25MM and then never touch the handle again. That could be kinda cool.

I had the pleasure of meeting NELLAD on a trip to Warren MI (Centerline, MI actually) some few years ago. I pulled in the parking lot and knew he was there due to his license plate, which was identical to his triv handle. I joined the regulars for a game of Six and our location finished first -- mostly because NELLAD and YANKEE were generous in their answers. Rest in peace, my friend.

I see someone is playing Don's handle which is a good sign. Hope whoever playing it plays it Wednesday for Speed Freaks and then til NELLAD gets 25m.
