To any who have just joined:

The old Scaratings had been attacked by hackers over the years, and many of the files were full of nasties that I don't think are good to put on your computers. I've blown them away and recreated this forum by hand. Due to this potential security concern and the age of the old bulletin board itself, I haven't brought any of the posts over.

Feel free to test posting anything you wish and make any suggestions to make what's here better. I can eliminate those posts before opening it to the general public.

Please note, I've created most of this by hand using the old site as a template. Some of these forums may disappear per Scar's request, as it's his site. :D

I've changed a few settings per user request.

Thanks!

Dante

Thanks Dante. Didn't mean for it to be so much trouble.

If they wouldn't mind, you could consider copying over threads from Buzztime's forums before they die, too.

I think that would literally require copy and pasting them.

Probably ought to bring over the original post dates too - shouldn't be too much trouble! :D

Short of someone copying and pasting them, I don't think it will work. The way PHPBB is laid out in the database doesn't seem to allow what you guys are talking about, unless things are substantially similar with BT (which they aren't).

But if you know of a way to do it, let me know!

BTW, forum threads are officially BT property, so even if we move 'em, they may come back and get mad at Scar and send a cease-and-desist.

Copying and Pasting is what I was talking about, hence why I said you. :P

I was just being facetious Dante. Transferring the posts on my small family forum was a gigantic pain in the butt when I changed from phpBB to a SMF forum. Getting the original time stamp on the posts I transferred was even worse.

Thanks Scar and Dante! This site seems to be a good replacement for what we're about to lose with the Buzztime Forums. I had never been to the old Scaratings, but had heard it mentioned here and there on the BT Forums. I hope many other come over to this site. Well done!

Just popping in guys -- offering my services as the Buzztime ambassador with the incredible luxury of not having to moderate. :D Looking forward to being able to chat with everyone as a member, instead of in an "official" capacity.

On the flip side, as I've told Dante - please let me know if there are any efforts here that you'd like us to link up on the BT site and I can work with you.

(I miss my dancing Gracie smilie!)

You make it sound like moderating is a bad thing. You just weren't abusing your power enough.

Yup. And given that outfit you put the poor dog in, I'd almost think you have a sadistic side to make good use of forum power too...

Just to go on a tangent, why is Read This a temporary forum?

My intent was to delete it. I may not now, if you think it's useful to keep.

I think it would be worth keeping Dante. A good place to post forum updates, problems or such.

Maybe even (gasp!) forum rules. :D

I find most things are governed by one simple rule:

"Don't be a jerk!"

Can you please clarify? What exactly qualifies as "being a jerk"... I am going to need some guidelines to keep Tim from banning me.

See, you'd think that would work. I've moderated several web forums, and actually Buzztime is the smallest one in terms of active members that I've worked on, and you know what, I've found it just doesn't.

Let's take you and I...we're both friends, we talk rather frequently about business and such... if I came in here and said something crazy, and you playfully called me a douche for it... I would have no problem with it. Hell, I would think it's funny and hurl something back at you. :D

Well in walks Johnny N00b over here, and he sees it and gets offended, and runs and tells Tim the moderator, and then somehow, something playful between friends gets blown out of proportion.

It sucks
