I was reminded this weekend it's been a while so here goes.

What: Solo Tournament open to all comers who will play the same bank of games without assistance of any kind from anyone or anything.

When: 6/22 5-8pm Eastern.

Where: Any Buzztime location playing the regular CD games.

How: PM, email to me or post here your participation with ONE handle and its HOME location (you don't have to play there, just so I can find it easily to scrape results). Then just play that block of games with no help at all. If you absolutely must play in a co-operative bar, move as far away from the "helpers" as you can and/or enjoin their silence for 3 hours. I will collate and post results within a day or two.

Why: Up to you. Speaking for me alone I like the challenge and purity.

I like it too, but I'll be attending my 50th high school reunion that day. Good skill to all who play.

Count me in, TTSQUZ. I'll be on the other side of Stewart's, sneering and glaring at Akbar71.

And this is what I'll miss the most if Scaratings falls: the warm sense of community...

I'm going to try and persuade GIMPY to play. She's stuck at my house with me ( :o ) until the Bow River recedes a little bit

Somewhat moribund but that does not distract from a fine winning performance on a tough set of games from AKBAR our champion. I might have been able to get close had I a)been able to distinguish between Eastern and Central and b)not decided to go to a bar that was hosting the local equivalent of Woodstock. I still would have lost though!

Amazingly 4/5 participants managed to get at least one win amongst the group.

Nice scores put up by the players...well done.

Rhino, I'd like to hear more about this Woodstock festival at the bar. Jam Bands? Grateful Dead stuff? Sounds like it could have been fun. A couple of months ago Hardtimes had a Dead cover band play, it was one of the busiest nights of the year.

I was 10 minutes late getting to Time Out anyway so the first game would have been cut even without the godawful noise that caused me to flee to another locale. I suppose I should not be so dismissive as I later found it was a benefit for a recently deceased local rock musician. Apparently it was a full-day open jam session. No doubt great music can be had for fans of the genre at these things but a) I'm not one and b) the only 30 seconds I heard was an off-key female vocalist (trying to make Janis Joplin spin in her grave) at a volume somewhere near the ear-bleeding threshhold, so I skedaddled and abandoned even a partial game. The bar is a large one (posted capacity 860) and was quite full even at 4 ish so no doubt fans of these things had a fine time.

Thanks for getting it going and the follow-up. Sorry we couldn't have a higher participation.

Thanks for putting this together and for your kind words, although I think you'd have beaten me if you had made it for the first game. I finger-fumbled away about 800 points that game. Must have been the pressure. Or the sneering and glaring.

Two observations about the solo-fest:
1) While in general I prefer the new all-CD schedule, I kind of wish it was still alternating CD/BT half-hours for the solo-fest.

2) Having played next to TTSQUZ (there really wasn't any sneering and glaring - more apologetic shrugging), I was reminded of how much better we play as a team. I'd estimate that of all of the questions that either of the two of us missed, the other had 1000 points about 80% of the time.

Although it would have cost me the imaginary crown, it would have been great to have more people involved. While this has always been a player-driven thing, I wonder if the buzzies could get involved in some way to make this bigger next time?
