Jeff (CHEESE) is in good with the owner of Bargo's and the La Quinta and he will be taking care of organizing much of the event this year. Patti (GMEBRK) will also be assisting as much as possible.

Any plan to get Patti away from a Playmaker, even for an hour or so, is a good plan. :)

Not a Bash! It is a Triviapalooza just as the host has called it.

Tie & Tolle have made their shindigs a yearly thing which is pretty cool. But, I think I noticed someone tried to arrange one in August, and have a legend putting on the one at Heroes. Someone speak up, we have an opening in September.

I guess it could just be me.

I tried to organize a get together in Toronto for last September but it fell through when the potential site closed and I couldn't secure a suitable replacement. The other sites were either too small, too busy (they didn't want to inconvenience/dislocate their existing clientelle), or too far from hotels.

As for Heroes, EP is on Facebook..perhaps someone could send him a message there

Has anybody, outside of Bargo's regulars, ever checked Bargo's out? I've played there quite a few times, since I just live down the road, and did not enjoy it all that much.

First, I always have to wait quite awhile just to get the bartenders' attention, and when I do, they act like I'm putting them out by wanting a playmaker, or a refill or a menu, etc. This was not just one night, but every single time I went there!

Not only is it impossible to get the bartenders' attention for playmakers, but also for drinks, including refills on soda, and food (no great loss, there -- the food is terrible). I think it might possibly be big enough for 75 people but I always thought of it as a hole-in-the-wall.

A positive is that the regular players are friendly and knowledgable. Also, as mentioned previously, it's near an interstate and a hotel. However, the Forest Park in BW3's is also very close to the interstate and hotels as are the ones in West Chester and Kenwood. None of these are my home-site, and Bargo's is actually closer to where I live than any of the others, but I think it would really be a mistake to pick Bargo's.

I must admit, though, that I've never been to a Triviapalooza so I'm not quite sure what the criteria are. Any thoughts?

FRAU

And yet I recall you distinctly calling your competing west coast get-together last year an "anti-bash" at least three times on the phone that weekend.
Hmmmm...the plot thickens... :P

I find the service at Bargo's to be pretty good overall. There have been times when they've been really busy and I've had to wait a few minutes for a drink but that's to be expected. The current crop of bartenders are all very good with one exception (and the exception isn't that bad, she's just a little ditzy).

The food's your typical bar food. The pizza and chicken fingers are really good and the burgers aren't bad. If you want restaurant quality food then go to an actual restaurant. It's not the most upscale place but it's clean and well maintained. Within the past couple of years they've gotten all new bar stools and completely remodeled the bathrooms. I've been in some real dive bars in my day and this place is pretty nice by comparison. I wouldn't call it a hole-in-the-wall either, it's a pretty good sized place.

The most important for a bash though is that you have an owner/manager who's on board with it and is willing to take care of the trivia players. At most bw-3's I've found the managers are pretty clueless about trivia and it's a low priority for them. Tolle's place is the exception to this, but in general picking a random bw-3's that's not used to accomodating large groups of trivia players probably isn't the way to go. I think Bargo's will do just fine.

I agree that the HH BWW did an excellent job hosting Dave's event the last two years.

I'm having no difficulty this year with the management @ my BWW for WVBTO III. Also, they really went all out for the first WVBTO. And last year's cluster fuck turned out for the best, with the webcam and the intimate setting at Allburgher's.

Despite not having much trivia action at my site, they know what to expect and are excited to host 50+ BT players for 2-3 days. Plus, it really helps when you have MaryC helping to trouble-shoot any problems.

I'll make the pilgrimage to Bargo's, even if it is a "dive bar" (BOTFLY LOVES dive bars!!!). Plus, I'm tired of Patti, Paul, & the other bat rastards teaming to keep the solo player down!!! It's time to get them 'shined up to dull their reflexes...EGADS!!!
