Today, I believe in the first CDT Countdown, We were asked which movie featured people travelling back in time from the present. Buzztime's answer was Back to the Future, but one of the distractors was Somewhere in Time, which is also correct.

Perhaps the question writer agrees with my assessment that Somewhere in Time should not count as a time travel movie. Exactly how does one hypnotize oneself back in time? Lame. You're better than that Matheson!
BT usually tries to trip us up by dusting off the old Time After Time option on this type of question,

How does one travel in time at all? Except for the old reliable one day forward every 24 hours method?

My beef isn't about the "time" part as much as the "travel" one.
I can imagine I'm in the distant future all day long. That doesn't mean I've traveled there. That's always been my complaint about that movie being listed as a "time travel" flick. You are correct that it's a bad incorrect option regardless.

(lost my original post)
I think Somewhere in Time is more astral projection than actual time travel, but in any case, it is definitely too close of a hair-split for a general trivia game. Maybe if we had a special topic of "Fictional Metaphysics"... :)

Countdown main database. Question was simply "What is the world's largest desert?" Given answer was the Sahara. Correct answer is Antarctic Desert. This was not among the choices.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_deserts_by_area

Also, the question which of these is not a type of pasta. Bugatti was the correct answer. The color text said (incorrectly)Bugatti is an Italian sports car manufacturer. Bugatti is a French sports car manufacturer.

Outdated question in the Countdown database:

What is the title of The Cars' last album? Buzztime's answer is Door To Door.

The Cars reformed and released an album titled Move Like This in 2011.

The question should be edited to say what was the title of The Cars album released in 1987.

Last nights Topix "Who of the following American Revolution names survived the winter at Valley Forge?"

There were two right answers - James Monroe was the one looking for but Benedict Arnold was there as well.

Well, hell. Yet another godawful, horribly bungled factoid - Q6, 1:00 PM Lunchtime Trivia. Question asked for the guardians of The Constitution (US Federal Courts). The last line of the factoid...

"...EQUAL JUSITCE FOR ALL."

On the original "ScaRatings" there was a forum called "NTN is Wrong Again". I would love it, if DANTE could find it and move those posts over to this thread.

Countdown, 4:30 Pacific, Q3 - question asked something like "Which of these Las Vegas casinos no longer exists?"

The answer NTN Buzztime wanted was Desert Inn. However, Imperial Palace was another choice. Earlier this year, Imperial Palace was re-branded as The Quad. :(

I guess it's a incorrectly written question, but on Tuesday during Late shift (I don't remember which game) there was a "The Simpsons" question. I'm a huge Simposns fan. The question was which celebrity is Chief Wiggum's voice based on. Everyone should know its an obvious Edward G Robinson impression. But who ever wrote the choices didn't. The choices were Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van dam, Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester Stallone. The correct answer was Sylvester Stallone.

Lunchtime Trivia, 7/28, 11:15 Pacific - Q4 asked something like "Which of these states is in two time zones?" The first two answers were WYOMING. :(

Countdown, 7/28, 5:30 - Q12 asked something like "Which of these governors was once known as Moonbeam?" IMO, the governor of The Horribly Site-Poor Golden State, Jerry Brown, is still known as Moonbeam.

The factoid then started "DURING IS FIRST TERM..." Something tells me that "IS" should have been "HIS".

Tues, 7/30/13, Lunchtime Trivia, 11:45am MST. I cannot remember the question verbatim, but the question asked about royalty in 1520, and the answer was Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I was born in 1533, so how could she be the answer?

Mon, 8/5/13, 11:15am MST, Lunchtime Trivia. Question about why you should soak dry beans, answer was it cuts down on cooking time, which is true. However, another answer was it reduces gas, which is also true.

Well, hell. :( Tuesday, 8/13, Lunchtime, 11:15, Q1 - Question asked something like "THIS SIDEKICK OFTEN LAUNCHES UNPROVOKED ATTACKS ON HIS BOSS" (KATO). The factoid started...

"KATO ATTACKS CLOUSEAU" While it has been way more than a lil while since I last saw The Green Hornet, IIRC Britt Reid was Kato's boss.

That said, it could be more than a lil interesting to see Kato show up in a reboot of The Pink Panther.

In the sequel to The Pink Panther - "A Shot in the Dark" Clouseau's housekeeper/butler/karate instructor is called Kato.

Been running on cable last couple of weeks. Saw it in a drive-in with The Pink Panther.

It's unfortunate that TomD was driven away from this forum because a poster was joking about a particular question that he had corrected a couple of times. Tom added a very valuable service to the game. I can understand why Tom was frustrated since he had already corrected the question twice. The poster meant no harm in adding a joke. The only (main) rule of this forum is to act like you're in a bar. Jokes get told in a bar. But obviously, it's hard to convey tone in a written word as opposed to a spoken word. So the entire thing that drove Tom off was just a complete misunderstanding.

Anyway, once an incorrect question gets in a database, it stays there, and as we know, these questions get recycled and used again.

For the second time in a Playback game (tonight, 8/17/13 game, round two), buzztime used the question that asked what was Dolly Parton's first solo hit song? The answer as keyed in is wrong. Buzztime's answer is Joshua. The correct answer, which is also one of the other four answer choices, is Dumb Blonde.

Buzztime needs to correct this question. TomD was the only one willing to do it.

This is not exactly an incorrect question, but rather a minor quibble over an incorrect clue. In the 3 December BrainBuster game, one question asked something like "Which role helped elevate John Gielgud to stardom in 1929?" The final clue that was supposed to point to Richard II was something like "Died at Bosworth Field." This, of course, points to a different Richard (III).

While we're mentioning incorrect clues, in the same BB game, on a question asking about what country Ngo Dinh Diem had led, Hanoi was used as the clue for South Vietnam, when it is in fact located in what was North Vietnam.

I forgot about that. Our Vietnam Vet was particularly annoyed at this one.

Pretty sure I saw that Prohibition, in place from Jan 1920 to Dec 1933, lasted nearly 13 years tonight.

The fact that a good third of the quiz was 20s zeitgeist only extremely tangential to Prohibition was a separate problem - more "barely relevant questions forum" I guess.

Playback 12/21/13, Headliner Round, Q5 asked who sang the original version of "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" in 1942. Buzztime's answer was Frank Sinatra.

From everything I've since read on it, Frank Sinatra sang the song in 1950. The original version was sung by Vaughn Monroe in 1945.

SIX tonight: "Canada's three territories are Nunavut, Northern Territories, and:"

Yukon Territory was the answer, and it is indeed correct. However, the sharp-eyed among you will have realized the question ought to have been rendered Northwest Territories (Northern Territories refers to all three as a group in the plural form, or a state of Australia in the singular)

I might be wrong, but there seemed to be an error during Pastimes tonight. In the Alder Gulch/Montana question, the follow-up text said the word "world" when I think it was supposed to be "worth."

More Six inaccuracies (one of which was harmless, the other could have cost some careless players):

Alexander of Bucephalus fame was not I but III. Why even give him alone a number when you didn't for Napoleon of Marengo fame even though he actually was a I?

And more risky depending on location option sequence was that Sibelius also wrote (several versions of) a work called The Tempest - op.109 - giving two correct options for that match. Admittedly Finlandia is a better known match for him and with only 4 options now most people have time to scan all answers before the first match, but still misleading.

And we haven't even mentioned the biggest error of the night.

I think it was countdown when we were asked to name the hotel Bob Newhart's character owned in the series "Newhart". The correct answer is of course that he didn't own one. He only dreamed he did!
