My last name's Griffin, so my nickname has been Griff since college. I was playing a second box once and had logged in as GLIFF, which was an alternate nickname based on how my Engineering Graphics teacher, Jimmy Chang, pronounced my name. About halfway through the game, I realized I was playing as GRIFF with my right hand and GLIFF with my left. I've been playing as GRIFF and GLIFF ever since.

I thought you might have been a fan of Writer/Director Samuel Fuller. Griff was always a character in his films.

So we were in Germany last month and I noticed that all of the emergency stop signs in the subway had my name on them.

Turns out Griff is the German word for handle.

So...(wait for it) ....

Mein Griff ist GRIFF.

Ich bevorzuge, dass dein Griff "Gliff" ist.

Thanks, I think.

I hope nobody was walking past my office when I was trying to pronounce this silently to myself. :o

Well, that's pretty cool.

No thanks justified. GYPSY is attempting to upend your pun, a solid double, by turning second base and hoofing it into third for a triple.

Well played, GYPSY. There are trains, there are handles, and there are preferences. You can arrive at third standing up.

Griff is your Buzztime "nickname". Griff in german is a physical handle. A nickname in German is Spitzname or Schimpfname.

Multinational companies sometimes experience problems when their trademarked brand name means something negative or different in another language.

I drive a 12 year old Japanese subcompact affectionately known as the Woofer. 213K in, it's on its third water pump, second brake job, and third set of tires. Other than that, it's had nothing but oil changes. But it never did have any gitty-up, hence a Dog.

I'm fairly confident that the car company now known here as Nissan was influenced by the subtle interplay of German and English to change its name from Datsun, a near homophone for the ungainly badger dog, Dachshund.
