I am a big fan of books on the Chicago Outfit. Bill Roemer, a former FBI agent who wrote a number of books on the Outfit after investigating them for years, said that because of some of the things that Tony Accardo did in his reign at the top (keeping the Outfit out of drugs, calling off contracts set by his underlings when he found out that the person didn't do what they were thought of doing), he said he had a grudging respect for Accardo. So I went with his press established nickname, "Big Tuna". He was actually known as Joe Batters in the mob.

If you want to read a great book, pick up Accardo: The Genuine Godfather by Bill Roemer.

Don't know if you've read it, but The Devil in the White City is a very cool non-fiction work by Erik Larson. Lots of interesting Chicago history that I never knew about...

From the Wiki:

The Devil in the White City tells the story of the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893 to commemorate Christopher Columbus's discovery of America. The book intertwines the true tale of two men: Daniel Burnham and H. H. Holmes. Burnham, the chief architect and mastermind of the Exposition (also known as the White City) inadvertently created a perfect setting for Holmes, one of America's first serial killers.
