One of my favorite memories of TGIF is the Six Tournament run by Pink Pig back in '05, which we ended up winning with a #1 overall.I got my first overall #1 in a Premium Game that night (NTN had just discontinued the Brain of the Day t shirts, so I never got one. My memory is a litte hazy, but I think this whas the time frame for the tourney.

We had a strech of five weeks in a row as #2, which was frustrating. One of the #2s we were joined by Liljol, Noles, Angel and Muddyshoes at about this time of year. Hard ro believe it's been 5 years.

MONTH DAY YEAR SCORE RANK

April 28 2005 53,945 5 (TIME OUT#2 WEBSTER TX)

I am also sorry to hear about this--I, too, had wanted to get down there at least once. :(

Played a round of games with Cloudy tonight. Had a chat with him about TGIF. He felt that he did his share to keep the games going at TFIG but respected the decision that they made to remove it. He's not sure where to move his points yet. He has a few choices, BW's Middletown, Old Chicago and BT's. I talked to him about other places, and discussed beer prices, team environment and distance to his house. I think that soon he might make a decision.

Yoda....then again, it took a while to get this state's budget passed.

PS, I've moved my account to BT's for now, still hoping that Frankfort will get a trivia bar

took Cloudy out tonight. Had to go home early due to family emergency, but did chat with him for a while. He's about to move his points to a BW's. We still miss TGIF, but life must change.

Just to prove how much of a legend SCAR really is (not that everyone on here doesn't know that  )...

My teammate noticed SCAR on the boards last weekend. I may have mentioned once or twice to him that I've met SCAR before, but I doubt it was anything said teammate committed to memory.

Teammate: "SCAR is playing at a different location tonight. That's unusual for him. He normally plays at TGIF."

Me: "Their TGIF recently dropped buzztime."

Teammate: "Oh, really!?!!"

SCAR is definitely a legend :)

One of my favorite stories.

3 or 4 years ago I was on vacation in Panama City, and visited their brand new Buffalo Wild Wings on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

It was packed. I sat at the bar and signed on Scar and my second box Muadib.

My Dad is from 30 miles north of there, and I had on a T-shirt from his hometown of DeFuniak Springs.

I talked with a couple seated at a table behind me, and gave them a few answers. Muadib won the game, and I went outside to smoke. The lady followed me and lit up herself. She looked at my shirt and took me for a local and asked me if I ever played at the Boathouse in Valparaiso FL. I said no, but I had seen their name on the boards. She said she and her husband were part time Panama City and part time Houston residents/ trivia players.

Then she asked me if I was Muadib who had won the game (they couldn't see that I had two boxes up on the bar).

I said yes.

She said, did you see the other name on the board ? Do you think it could be The Scar ?

I said What ?

She said "A Scar was playing... do you think it could be him ?"

I just started to laugh.

She said , "You know, the one that plays at Fridays in Louisville KY"

After much laughter, I told her I was playing 2 boards.

I told that story when I got home, and for a month everybody at Fridays called me The Scar.

I have a comment about the TGIF that is subscribing to Buzztime.

They had trivia for years, and was one of the more popular places to play. When I worked in that area I used to stop in. I am not sure when they dropped trivia, maybe about 4 years ago.

The interesting thing is that three very close establishments are rated very high for activity.

Sandbar 79, BWW 317, and Manhattans Deli and Pub 517. I believe the Sandbar got the bulk of the ex TGIF players.

Now I wonder if some genius at TGIF wondered where the 15 to 20 regulars he had in the afternoon and evening went.

I have played at both the Sandbar and Manhattans, both are excellent sites.

Thanks for the kind words about the Jefferson Avenue brigade.

It's been awhile, but I recall TGIs dropped it as soon as soon as the corporate mandate was lifted. At that time, TGIs was busy enough to not need the game. Everyone settled back to either Cheers or Sandbar (then Philly's).
From the few folks I've chatted about this: we're all going to give Friday's a test drive & we'll see after that.

Somebody was saying last night that Friday's had the system up, but there was no sign that the site had reported in on the web today.

Just an update on Friday's Plainview. The building is up for sale and Friday's is on a month to month lease. You can do the math. At some point in the future this location will close it's doors and move to a new location in town.

Last Saturday everything at TGI Fridays was auctioned off. I picked up a few things including the street sign that hung over the back of the bar. It was a sad day with a few of the bartenders and regulars showing up for the auction. I will attach a link to the pictures taken by the auction company. I doubt that they will keep the link up for a long time.

The final straw. Owners are planning on tearing down the Friday's building. It is going to cost $55,000 to replace the roof and even more to remodel the building. Not sure on the date, but the building is going down.

Funny how things change in a years time. The old Friday's building was gutted and the kitchen, bar and everything else removed. It is now a gym!!! Funny thing it opened last month and no one is going to it. Doubt if they keep it open much longer. Maybe one day it will be a restuarant again with trivia.

I always said they should have trivia at the gym, with playmakers embedded in the treadmill.

Run in place, push #3 !

The saga continues. Gym did not last a month and the building is back up for sale. What a waste of money.
