There was an article in the Halifax News about FALCON and the Applebees where he plays.

Nice article, did you contact the reporter Wayne? or how did the article get started?
Players should contact their local papers to suggest a similar article, especially if you are in need of new players or looking to form a team.

There's a pic of FALCON too.

"Trivia buffs looking for a fun way to hone their skills and play against others from across North America need look no further than the Clayton Park Applebee’s on Tuesday nights.

That particular restaurant is the only NTN Buzztime location in Nova Scotia. Buzztime is the company responsible for producing the interactive trivia game competitions and bringing them to TV screens at more than 4,000 locations across Canada and the United States.

Wayne Neily lives in King’s County, but regularly makes the weekly trek to Clayton Park to compete. In addition to helping hone his trivia skills, Neily said it’s a fun evening of social interaction with like-minded people.

“I started this when I was living in Winnipeg. I went into a bar and discovered it by accident in 1988 and have been playing ever since because I really like it,” he said. “I’m more fanatic about it than most people. We’d like to get more people out because many don’t know about it.”

Buzztime offers a variety of trivia games across a broad spectrum of subjects, including pop culture, world history, music, geography and sports. The game with the largest following and most prestige is Showdown, which has a 25-year history.

That game runs from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time, but Neily said it’s a good idea for players to show up by 8 p.m. to play some of the preceeding half hour games. A number of other trivia games are played before Showdown, including ‘Canada, Eh!’ (Canadian trivia) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Neily said he and his Clayton Park group members each have their strengths and weaknesses. While he’s lacking in TV and movies, he considers himself an old hand at science and geography and has reasonable success with history. But philosophy and modern literature aren’t his forte. He and his group are encouraging anyone interested in a wide range of trivia to join them.

“Last year we won against all the Applebee’s in North America that were playing,” he said. “The highest we’ve been ranked this year (out of the 4,000 or so locations) was 42.”

Participants don’t pay to play, and anyone interested just needs to show up on Tuesdays at the Clayton Park Applebee’s. "

Good spotting, Bud! You got to see it before I did! Was that a Google alert?

I was contacted by the reporter in mid-June and it took us a couple of weeks to get the photograher in for Showdown night and to do the interview, as I am traveling around the province doing bird surveys for environmental assessments at this time of year. We managed to get 5 players out for Showdown that week (2 more than usual), so it is too bad that they used a picture that showed only me.

I had placed a free ad in Kijiji under the Halifax - community activities section and Yvette (the reporter) saw it there. Here it is in case anyone else wants to try a similae one.

Date Listed 09-Jun-11
Address 278 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS B3M 3M9, Canada
Heading: "Exercise your brain - compete in Showdown"

If you like Jeopardy, Trivial Pursuit, Reach for the Top, etc., this is for you. A small group meets every Tuesday evening at Applebee's in Clayton Park to compete with about 3000 other locations across North America. Expertise in any area can be a help, or a good general knowledge. Usually no big prizes, just lots of fun and a chance to get Halifax up on the leader board. Main games are 2030-2230 our time, but there are fun ones on earlier, including "Canada Eh!" at 1830, if you can get in that early. All games are free, food & drink are up to you.

Gutz still thinks that I have a even worse trivia addition now. Actually (as she doesn't know about this website yet), it's just an excuse to get out of the house.

I don't remember any "trivia addition".
I remember some trivia subtraction..."What is 31-8?"

You were featured in "Buckhannon's most wanted"!
