What record fell in Vivian, South Dakota, on July 23, 2010?

All hail pengwn for having the stones to admit his killng (for a time) of this thread. 8-)

Well, Hail. how about something to do with a Hail storm? like most pellets per hour, or largest stone, or highest depth of ice after it was over.

I knew our avatars were going to lead to some sort of confused international incident someday.
I just figured the feds would knock down my door someday and falsely accuse me of assassinating some eastern European envoy because he was clutching a picture of a chimp at a typewriter.
You'd be surprised how often I've had to take time off from work for that sort of thing...

Close enough for me, MiniCloudy  . This stone measuring 8 inches in diameter was recovered:

I will note other stones have existed that were heavier (Bangladesh, 1986) or larger in circumference (Nebraska, 2003). Like ranking tall buildings or large cities, pick the criteria you like best, I suppose

I am unable to come up with a good non-pop culture trivia question, so I will open the floor to anyone who wishes to post one.

Okay, I gave you guys a chance. Since no one took it, I will post the only Trivia question I have available right now. Sorry, but it *IS* pop culture

I've been listening the <CENSORED> out of an iHeart radio station dedicated to American Top 40 shows of the 70s and 80s, in honor of the late Casey Kasem. One that I heard was actually a show originally broadcasted the weekend of August 25-26, 2007. This show itself was a rebroadcast of a show from August 26th 1978 (almost 30 years earlier). The 1978 show was the first time that a Long Distance Dedication was made, and the 2007 show included interviews with the man who made the request and the woman to whom the song was dedicated.

The request was made by a guy whose girlfriend's parents were in the military. When her parents were transfered to Germany, the two kept in touch for a while, but eventually stopped writing. The guy knew she listened to AT40 on Armed Forces Radio, and asked Casey to play a song to her so that she would hear it. The song's title is the same as the girl, and was a hit in 1977. Name the song.

Tomorrow I will give more clues, but if you have a trivia question ready, feel free to Google the answer.

Never mind.

I got it. Thought you were aping Spotes' trick of answering the question without really answering it

My first guess will be "Alison".

If anybody can answer it without looking it up I take my hat off to them. That was a pretty obscure Neil Diamond song.

It wasn't that obscure. Back in the day, it was played enough for me to get completely sick of hearing it. :|

Take the last letter off the song title and spell the rest backwards, and the name becomes that of a fictional mirror.

since several people know the song (be it looking it up or already knew the answer), if you know it and have a trivia question ready, go ahead and post the answer.

The Neil Diamond Song was "Desiree." The Wikipedia article on that song clearly states that as the answer to MiniYoda's question.

The follow-up is this: which well-known mountain was summitted for the first time on this date in 1786?

No, Everest was not climbed until much later. (1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.)
