(I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I thought it would be nice if there were a category that allows us to ask each other trivia questions, so here goes.)

What was the first name of William Tell's son?

1) Heinrich
2) Walter
3) Hans
4) William
5) Dieter

Depends on which version of the story. In some translations of the legend his son is Walter, but in Rossini's opera his name is Jemmey

So... I guess I'll ask the next one. There was a good one from last week's Ken Jennings trivia game, so I'll go with that one.

What common pastime are you enjoying if you have a "verso" and a "recto" in front of you?

You are reading. A verso page is a left-hand page, and a recto page is on the right.

OK, a sports question:

What city became the new home of two teams in two different sports, each with the same nickname and colors, who were renamed upon their relocation and subsequently won championships?

Hmmm, that's a good question

That'd be Baltimore. The St Louis Browns became the Orioles and the Cleveland Browns became the Ravens.

I'll have to think of a question.

What is the longest normal English word that you can type using only the top letter row of a normal QWERTY keyboard?

I don't know if it's still correct or not, but the answer to that question used to be the word "typewriter".

Hmmm.... how ridiculous do I want to make this?
Oh hell, somebody will end up just googling it anyway... :D

How about:

Who was the first woman to register to vote in the state of Connecticut?

or if you prefer:

What were the names of the two movies on the theater marquee in the movie Gremlins and what is their additional trivia signicance?

Gremlins - Ghostbusters - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

They are violent movies rated PG... and caused the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating

...

With the Senate result, thought I would have a similarly veined question (and very easy)....

What was the 1st Republican to be elected President?

I'm amazed you actually know the answer to this :o I'd take a shot at Katherine Hepburn.

Is this a trick question? (I.e., President of what?) Thomas Jefferson was known as a Democratic-Republican, but that doesn't make him a Republican, so the answer remains Abraham Lincoln.

Not the actress. her mother.

I understand why spotes would know this. If you start to Google "Connecticut woman" - it tries to direct you to some woman attacked and mauled by a chimp

Who was the first (and only) unelected President/Vice President team? That is neither were elected as either a President or a Vice President neither were elected.

That one I know: Ford/Rockefeller.

Well, Fred Worth strikes again. :D

It was a factoid from his 1974 Super Trivia book that I read years ago. He credited Louisa May Alcott as the first. After a little snooping around the binary universe, it looks like another piece of my childhood has gone horribly awry...

Nice try.
The movies on the marquee were "A Boy's Life" and "Look to the skies!"
Those were the working production titles of two previous Spielberg works, E.T and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, respectively.

Wow.. didn't know that. Eh, I tried though.. I know the 3 I listed were the 1984 movies that caused the MPAA to create a new rating.... but I didn't know the previous names of those 2 movies.

On that note, a relatively easy question for fans of the series, what movie's working title was "Blue Harvest"

One of the Star Wars movies, the third one I think.
Or maybe the second... :-

I thought The Right Stuff was the first PG-13. Love that movie, btw.

BTW, PP, I forgot to tell you in my earlier post that there are about a bajillion little snippets like this (hopefully more accurate than some of my Super Trivia stuff... :D) just floating around my noggin waiting to find a home. :D

Do you recognize the name Vivienne Nearing without looking it up?
Here's another fun one:
Who won the 1946 Gold Cup in hydroplane racing?
How about:
Who was the 1958 Hong Kong cha-cha champion? Obvious, but wacky nonetheless.
Lastly:
Besides being heavyweight champions, what other unique feature do Robert Fitzsimmons and Jack Johnson both share? (There might be a multitude of correct answers to this one, i.e. being right-handed and such. But that ain't what I'm a-lookin' fer... ;) )

Well, let's see. Did they play "Auld Lang Syne" at the awards ceremony? 8-)
BTW, my favorite unlimited hydroplane racer had eight Gold Cup wins & the most wins of anyone before his death.

So, you wish to do motor sports, eh? Who was the only driver to win indy car's "Triple Crown", Indianapolis 500, Pocono 500 & the Ontario 500?
