Thanks, but neither theta nor phi. To be clear, the clues were not in the original post but the following one, namely:

I'm guessing Eratosthenes, by default, was a 'Frat Rat'.
Are you sure it was just one letter & not three?
Tappa Kegga Dei???

Well after reading the clue, lets go with Zeta.

Well, it rhymes with zeta. He was called "Beta" because although he made major contributions to fields as diverse as math, geography, and astronomy, his critics said he was second-best in any of them. If you look at how he calculated the circumference of the earth to within 1%, though, I think he had a claim on some alphaness.

By virtue of venturing the most tries (and the closest answer), I'll pass the baton to Mudee.

Thanks ANON, That was an interesting question.

To change it up, What small creature has 4 noses? For bonus points, what other small creature can have over 10,000 teeth?

Nice try, but unless Joel mutated since I last saw him, that is an incorrect answer. 8-)

I didn't want to step on anyone's toes for guessing purposes, but I've always felt that, when it comes to Roman Empires, the Byzantines never had the right to refer to ANYONE as "second place" anything.
And I don't like purple.
Take that, you historical Byzantine dicks! :D

Well here is a little hint..... think small somewhere between the size of a nickle and a quartet (in most cases). If there are no closer guesses than ICEMAN with the LILJOL answer by tomorrow, then the floor is his.

Well its ICEMAN by a nose.

The small creature with 4 noses? A SLUG

Bonus Q: A SNAIL can have between 10,000 and 25,000 in most cases.

ICEMAN has the floor,

Well, you see, that's what threw me... A quartet is pretty good sized... Certainly larger than liljol. 8-)

The 1951 Gary Cooper western titled Distant Drums had something in it that has been used in movies such as Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Toy Story, Reservoir Dogs, Titanic, Anchorman, 22 Jump Street, and more than 200 other films and TV shows... What is it?

I believe the word you are missing is Wilhelm.

Hmmmm... It seems that Akbar laid the foundation & Brutus built upon it.
It is indeed the Wilhelm Scream. Here's the very first... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc5F2C0CYlA
And a compilation... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YDpuA90KEY

I'll let you two fight this one out, no screaming.

Not sure I get there without the setup, so Akbar can take the credit.

Who arbitrated the settlement of the Pig War, the border dispute between the U.S. and Canada, ultimately awarding control of the San Juan Islands to the U.S.?

Nothing?

Okay, I think the actual answer is Kaiser Wilhelm I. If that can be verified as the correct answer I'lI post a new question within 12 hours.

It was Wilhelm. I just wanted to post a question with the same answer as the last. (Albeit a different Wilhelm.) You're up, Zog!

Sorry for not being faster with a question.

I expect this to be answered very quickly. What are the Pleiades called in Japanese?

I was going to give someone else a chance to answer this, but as no one has stepped up, I'll go ahead. The answer is Subaru, which is why the auto company has the logo it does.

For the next one, there were two First Ladies in the 20th century whose first name was Eleanor. One was Eleanor Roosevelt. Who was the other? (Hint: Almost everyone knows her by another name).

Jimmy Carter's wife, Rosalynn. Rosalynn was actually her middle name.
