Post subject:  Culture Quiz

Amid some quizzes about archipelagoes and such, I submitted one called "Professional Wrestling Hall of Famers."

A friend of mine questioned whether a Venn diagram of trivia players and WWE fans would show any overlap. So for fun I thought of this quiz using analogies. I'm afraid they may run me out of the village with torches, but the last one cracks me up:

1. 2009 Balthazar is to Chateau Margaux as Banana Red is to __________ .

2. 2013 Wraith is to Rolls-Royce as the 1985 GV is to __________ .

3. So Kate Pumps are to Christian Louboutin as All-Stars are to ___________ .

4. "Citizen Kane" is to 1941 as "Snakes on a Plane" is to ____________ .

5. "And that's the way it was ... " is to Walter Cronkite as "You ARE the father" is to __________ .

6. Pasta Primavera is to Le Cirque as Doritos Locos are to ___________ .

7. "The Art of Performance" is to Jaguar as "Your Rambler Dollar is a Bigger Dollar" is to ___________ .

8. Alistair Cooke is to "Masterpiece Theatre" as Rob Dyrdek is to ____________ .

9. "Further Future" in southern Nevada is to Tech CEOs as the Black Hills Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota is to ____________ .

10. "Everything. Right where you need it" is to Hilton Garden Inn as "We'll Leave the Light on for You" is to _____________ .

11. Gian Lorenzo Bernini is to sculpture as Banksy is to ____________ .

12. Magellan Scout Seats is to U.S. Cellular Field as the Rockpile is to ____________ .

13. "I wandered lonely as a cloud" is to William Wordsworth as "Will the real slim shady please stand up" is to ___________ .

14. "Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor" is to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as "Achy Breaky Heart" is to ___________ .

Any other suggestions (besides leaving town chased by torches)?

Whenever I think of the godawful "Achy Breaky Heart" song, I immediately think of Weird Al Yankovic's parody version. :D

I knew a lot of the Weird Al songs before I ever heard the originals. I didn't know that "Alimony" was a parody until embarrassingly recently.

And when I saw Kool and the Gang open for Van Halen a few years ago I realized the Dominick's Grocery Store song wasn't an original.

No overlappedness here I am afraid.

No longer a WWE fan but I may do alright on a HoF quiz as I did watch it growing up in the 80s through the early 2000s.

I would say it would show some overlap.

If VICTOR haunted these boards, I'm sure he'd do pretty well on this.

Well, hell. IIRC there was a time back when WWE Raw and WCW Monday Nitro were among the highest rated cable shows, during which there were more than a few questions on both promotions. 8-)
