I'm gonna post this recommendation again. Got a feeling that no one paid much attention to it the first time, but I'm gonna put it up here once more.

Most of the people on the "ScaRatings" are very smart, extremely knowledgable, competitive, and are good at clicking quickly on their Game Players. There is an online game that you must try. Again, I recommend that you go to the Boxerjam website and try to play "Strike a Match". This is a word association game, that most smart people will love and do quite well at, once they get to know it. You will be competing against other people, trying to match words correctly that somehow go together, faster than those, whom you are playing against. This is NOT a game for idiots trying to kill some time. It's a game for smart people to show other smart people who's the boss!

The reason I'm mentioning it again, is that I have not been able to log into the game for about 10 years. I could never figure out why, and just gave up on it. However, tonight (even thought he doesn't know it) DANTE fixed some things on my computer for other problems, that reopened the door for me to get back into "Strike a Match". I finally got to get in there and lock horns with a bunch of self-impressed, know-it-alls for the first time in about a decade. Though I was a little rusty, I did manage to get 3rd place. This game is right up NTN players' alley.

Do yourself a favor, and make me happy, go to this link, and give it a shot:

http://www.boxerjam.com/sam/

p.s. It will probably take you a little while to figure it out. Each round is a little different. To help any of my "ScaRatings" friends, who try the game, here is my e-mail address for those of you, who would like a little help, a few suggestions, and some crafty tricks to do better:

ksm51746@aol.com

p.s. I have a prize for the first of you, who wins a "Stike a Match" game in the next 30 days. No proof necessary, I will take your word for it.

This is a misnomer. I've met literally hundreds of female gamers. They're out there, they just aren't in the same places as the men, in a lot of cases, and, when they are, usually don't let off that they're female since they don't want to be harassed constantly.

Used to play an online game with a girl for forever who used a voice modulator to make it sound as if she were a man so that people wouldn't hit on her/harass her all the time. She played with us for over half a decade and I don't think to this day that 99% of the people in that group ever found out she was female.

Here's a link to a site that did some research on the question of how many males vs. females play computer games:

Interesting study. Too old, though, on the references. Internet/gaming research needs to be done every two or three years or it is usually pretty off. :(

Yeah, maybe it isn't DANTE's favorite game of all time, but "7th Guest" has to be in his top ten. A few years ago DANTE told me about the game, and I went out and bought it. (DANTE's recommendations are always good.) Sadly, it would not play on my computer. I gave up on the game, and it has gathered dust and cobwebs. However, yesterday evening DANTE had great news. A web site called "Trilobyte" was thinking about bringing the game back. WOW...! I needed to check it out, and tell them to go with it.

DANTE was right, but it seems that "Trilobyte" has only resurrected the game for "iPhone" and "iPad". I tried to find some way on their web site to suggest that they make the game available for online play, or on a CD that people could buy. However, I couldn't figure out how to do it. Though I think I got close a couple of times, it kept sending me off to places, where others had posted, and I couldn't find how to post my suggestions.

I would have thought that I would have to register on their web site, before they would let me post anything there, and perhaps I needed to, but I couldn't find a place to register. Here is a link to their web site, please take a look at it, and let me know how I might have goofed up.

http://www.trilobytegames.com/index.html

If anyone can figure out how to do it, we all need to go there and tell them that they need to bring "7th Guest" back in a format that can be played on something besides "iPhone" and "iPad".

Thanks

p.s. The site does offer some kind of "Facebook" sign up, but CLOUDY doesn't do "Facebook".

I know for sure that I never played a game-show themed game called "Smash". Heck, I probably wouldn't have been any good at that one either.

Actually, the game was called Smash TV. I recall that at the very end, the ultimate monster that you faced was the game show host himself.

You asked about Tempest on a prior post. It was a game that had three controls: a Fire and a Super Zapper button on the left, and a spinner control on the right. You could start at levels 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. The levels each had different shapes (at least up to level 16; after that the shapes repeated, but the colors changed.

Finally, I'm seriously checking your recomendation out.

Wikipedia likes "Smash TV", and if I'm right the game can be played on a PC. As I understand it, the game is on "The Midway Arcade Treasures collection", which is available for the PC, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and PlayStation 2 and was released in 2003. These versions give the player the option to save high scores.

My favorite game of all time though was definitely Dig Dug. And as much as I love my MAME emulator, it's just not the same as walking into that dark arcade, seeing rows of machines and hearing that myriad of sounds. 8-)

Was it is possible to beat "Dig Doug" at the arcade, or did it just go on forever, until you ran out of quarters (tokens)?

I think most games of that era would just go on forever, but I remember reading an article earlier this year saying that pac-man actually did have a finite ending. you had to reach a certain score. It was like 1.4 million and change. I've never seen dig dug beaten though so i'm not sure if it has a finite ending or not. I think the highest I ever made it was like round 25 or so. They're hauling ass at that level. lol

In response to the two prior posts...

The highest possible score on Pac-Man is 3,333,360; this has only been accomplished a few times. This is at the 256th maze, which is the “split screen”.

I know of scores of 2.5M on Dig Dug, which is about 50 times my personal best at that game. The monsters in this game move very slowly around the 128th stage if I recall correctly; I saw a MAME recording of an advanced game about five years ago. I suspect that the answer to Dig Dug going indefinitely may be if the game can go past the 256th stage.

I'd suggest for those of you who have not, check out the movie "The King of Kong."

It is an excellent movie, and especially good for those of you who remember arcades. :)

Dig Dug was probably in the same boat as Pac Man, past the 255th board, the code runs out and half the screen is gibberish. Getting a game to that point is definitely an amazing feat though, especially considering that there were continues on pac man. you had to do the entire thing on one quarter. I believe dig dug did have a continue though if you put another quarter in within 10 seconds.

Haven't seen the movie, "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters", but if DANTE recommends it, watch it...! (I guess I will have to add this one to my library.)

Here's what Wikipedia says about it:

"The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is a 2007 American documentary film that follows Steve Wiebe as he tries to take the world high score for the arcade game Donkey Kong from reigning champion Billy Mitchell. The film premiered January 22, 2007, at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival and has been shown at the Newport Beach Film Festival, the Seattle International Film Festival, the SXSW Film Festival, the TriBeCa Film Festival, the True/False Film Festival, the Aspen Comedy Festival, and the Fantasia Festival. The film opened in limited release in the United States on August 17, 2007, in 5 theaters, and by September 9, 2007, the film had expanded to 39 theaters in the U.S. Later in 2007, it appeared on the cable network G4.

The film's original title was simply The King of Kong but later received the subtitle A Fistful of Quarters. A scripted film adaptation is already in the works. Director Seth Gordon has said that the movie might be a sequel instead of a remake, telling the story of how the documentary changed both men's lives, as well as their continuing rivalry. The film's DVD release was on January 29, 2008."

At first I thought DANTE was referring to the Jack Black "King Kong" film, which is a pretty good movie. Why did I think that was what he was talking about...? Simply because DANTE is Jack Black. I know he denies it, but ask yourself this, have you ever seen DANTE and Jack Black together at the same time? Of course not! Even after all of that makeup that DANTE puts on for the movies, he can't fool me. They still look exactly alike.

Come on DANTE fess up, and get your buddies some free passes to go see your next movie.

p.s. There is a computer game based on Jack Black's "King Kong" movie. I've got it, but only played it for a little while. Never went very far into it.

Okay, here come ten more computer game recommendations worth playing from CLOUDY:

1- "Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh" (Probably not for kids.)

Here's a link to a somewhat disappointing video of the game:

2- "Amber: Journeys Beyond"

8- "Paperboy" (1 and 2) (Silly, simple games, but fun nonetheless)

Here is the best I could do for a video of this computer game. I'm not very happy with it, but...

How many computer games have there ever been...? I Googled it, but the only answer I could find was, "There is no answer at this time." Hmm, I think one of us has to do a little research, and a lot of counting. Just making a wild ass guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if the number wasn't close to 100,000. Anyone got a different guess, or better yet, does anyone know...?

Get out there guys, check them all, and start counting. Shouldn't take you much more than a year...

Battle Chess was an awesome game. I've always been an avid chess player and when that came out, that was just the ultimate. I remember sometime in the mid 90's, there was a star wars based chess game what was similar to battle chess. I.E. vader would be going around the board striking down other characters with his light saber....or chewie making tin cans out of stormtroopers. lol. I don't remember the actual name of it though but had it for my 386 back then if that tells you anything.

Cheers,

As I believe I have told you before, back before I began losing most of my hair, a dear friend and I were asked to sign autographs at a basketball game, and were later given free food at a Wendy's, because people thought we were Paul Walker and Jack Black.

I tend to get "Leonardo DiCaprio" now that he has gotten fat.

But as long as people aren't saying Patton Oswalt, my secret is safe.

In a word: practice. (And lots of it.)

Also, both of these games could be played for a long time by using patterns; for someone who can score in the millions at these games, these patterns must be second nature. :)

Good try Jack... Everyone knows Jack Black now wears a wig in his movies. The hair loss thing is just a cover up. Come on, we won't hound you for autographs, we just want some free passes to your next movie.

p.s. I've watched all of your movies, and loved them all. I am on your fan club web site, and plan to run for president of it, when there is an opening.

Then you must remember "Sargon". I think I might have played an early version of it a long time ago, but I only have "Sargon III" now. I'm a terrible chess player, but it was fun to see if I could beat the computer. (Think I did once. Not sure, but let's pretend I did.)

You're right, "Battle Chess" was imitated several times. Never played any of the new ones. I moved on to other computer games, where I had a chance of winning.

Here's a link to a video of the original "Battle Chess" game:

Also, both of these games could be played for a long time by using patterns; for someone who can score in the millions at these games, these patterns must be second nature. :)

I'm getting more vibes of the "Last Starfighter" movie. Could the movie be true...? Could these guys now be somewhere in outer space, fighting off evil aliens, and saving the world...?

More and more, this is reminding me of the movie, "The Last Starfighter". Could the movie be true...? Could these guys now be somewhere in outer space, fighting off evil aliens, and saving the world...?

That was one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Watched it again recently. It did not age well. :)

(For those, who might just be tuning in, DANTE was referring to the movie, "The Last Starfighter".)

DANTE, you are right, and I'm worried. People, like movies, usually don't age well, and I'm sure that applies to all of the Earthlings, who have been selected to go into space, after kicking butt on arcade games, to protect us from an alien invasion. Those guys up there, who are still fighting off the evil alien invaders, are probably balding by now, and need glasses. Their reflexes are certainly slowing down too. Heck, they've been up there for 20 years or more. What worries me is where will new guys come from, now that there are no video arcades to train their replacements? "Golden Tee Golf" players couldn't fend off a swarm or mosquitos, let alone a fleet of intergalactic starships heading to Earth to wipe us out. I think this is something that all of us should be concerned about.

(Yep, you guessed it. I've been listening to "Coast to Coast" tonight. Don't worry, I didn't call in. However, I've got a feeling, if I did, they probably would have put me on the air for 10 or 15 minutes, and a bunch of insane people would have called in after me, confirming my concerns.)

p.s. For those of you, who don't know, "Coast to Coast" is a late night AM radio program that features nuts, who believe in UFO's, Big Foot, out of body experiences, ghost visitations, a hollow Earth, witches, demons, and much, much more, that makes no sense.)

Let's try completely obscure stuff. I will be very surprised if anyone picks up on this post of very old DOS games that never moved beyond 5 1/4" floppies, and probably never will. Here are a few of them:

1- "Killer Bees"
2- "Engineer"
3- "Sabotage"
4- "Vampire"
5- "Space Commander"
6- "Lords of Conquest"
7- "The Orion Odyssey"
8- "Dracula in London"
9- "Back to the Forest"
10- "Save Our Pizzas!"

I could go on and on. These are all very early DOS games for the PC, and if by some miracle, you could find a way to play these extremely old 5 1/4" floppies, I am sure you would be quite disappointed. I actually played them all a long time ago, but have no recollection as to how the games went. I simply pulled them out a box of my old games, and listed a few. However, there is one I DO remember, which if you can find it, you need to play. It is funny as Hell. We are talking about the greatest spoof of "Space Invaders" of all time... It is......................

"ASTRO TIT"

I'm not kidding. It's a hoot, but good luck trying to find it, let alone getting it to play on one of today's computers.

(Acutally you might find it titled as "*A*S*T*R*O*T*I*T*" with all of those asterisks inserted around the letters.)

I still have the loading instructions on the floppy, but alas, nothing to load it to.

p.s. It's a little salty, but if you're an adult, that's good!

p.p.s. This post was a little unfair, because I think that most of you guys are much too young to have ever heard of these games. Hell, I'm too old to remember how to play them. However, once again, if you can find it, I think you will get a kick out of "Astro Tit". Good luck...

p.p.p.s. Hell, I just Googled "Astro Tit", and son-of-a-beehive, I think you can download the game. I am astonished! Go for it guys, but don't let your kids watch you playing it, though it might put your wife or girlfriend in the right mood. (It helps, if you have played "Space Invaders" before.)

Then we are all doomed. The Pac-Man players can only help us if the aliens are named Pinky, Blinky, Inky, and Clyde, and only if there are any big dots left. (It's rumored that these big dots taste like chicken.) Galaga players can only save civilization if the attacking aliens arrive in looping patterns, enter a large formation, and let us have a free shot at them every four stages. Honestly, I think real aliens would be a tiny bit more creative. That is, unless they learned about our planet from listening to Coast to Coast!

Though I don't have the power, I'm putting you in command anyway. Got a feeling that you know the best "Pac-Man", and "Galaga" players that Earth has to offer. Perhaps, it would have been better. if they were champion "Starfighter" players, but we don't have time to worry about that now. Collect your team, and get them ready to head into outer space. You are in charge, and the fate of the planet Earth rests in your hands. I know you and your team will prevail, and the alien invaders will be turned back once more. You know what looping patterns, and large formations look like, so I'm sure you will have no problem. May the force be with you.

p.s. If these aliens ever listened to "Coast to Coast", they would never come here. If they believed what they heard, all of that wacky stuff would certainly scare them off.
