If you looked it up, I bet the official scorekeeper that day was Hilda Schusta.

This must be the Hilda Shusta you were talking about...

"Though Ebbets featured a domed rotunda enclosed in Italian marble, it was known for its carnival atmosphere and rough-hewn, blue-collar fans. When one fan yelled out at players who had struck out, "Ya bum, ya!," it caught on, and the Dodgers became known as "Dem Bums." A makeshift band of ill-talented musicians called the "Dodger Sym-phony" would beat drums and blow horns to songs like "Three Blind Mice." And in the center-field bleachers, a fan named Hilda Schusta would clang cowbells and drop notes of advice for the center fielder to take to the manager."

Am I right?

Yepper.
I like to name drop old school style in deference our Lil friend out west.
It's how I roll.

God Damn, how do you know all of this stuff...? I've accused you of being a cyborg that has been programmed to know everything on an another thread tonight. I'm starting to think that the joke just might not be a joke...

Obviously, those line drive hitters didn't listen to the man, who said, "Keep your eye clear, and hit 'em where they ain't."

What Hall of Famer gave us that advice...?

I know that most of you know the answer, but for those who don't, here is your hidden answer:

"Wee Willie" Keeler

Again, to see the hidden answer, simply left click on your mouse, hold it down, and drag it through the empty space above.

I know that most of you knew this, but here is Wee Willie Keeler on an old tobacco card:

p.s. Boy, he really choaked up on the bat.

I had to copy and paste this post from another thread on the "ScaRatings" after Liljol made a post that said the Boston Red Sox were the "Evil Empire". Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Here's the post (or most of it):

Liljol is banned for not knowing what team is really the evil empire. Without question the New York Yankees are the evil empire.

Image

I truly believe that George Steinbrenner was actually the Devil, and bought the souls of the players he got to sign with the Yankees.

Image

Here are two links where you can join in with others, who think that Steinbrenner was the Devil:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2202650022

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2203168471

p.s. Liljol never replied to my bebutal on the other thread. Maybe be will here...?

THE NEW YORK YANKEES ARE THE EVIL EMPIRE...!

Well, I think the Yankees are the most evil of empires, but I also consider the Dallas Cowboys to be Evil Empire #2. This is the wrong thread to discuss them any further, but at least their cheerleaders are cute. 8-)

Liljol, you may have overlooked my question, or I may have missed your reply, but when did you become a Giants fan? Was it back when they were playing at the Polo Grounds, or after they they moved to the West Coast?

Cards beat the Pirates 6-4 so I hope the Giant wins.

Who was the only modern day pitcher to throw back to back no hitters in the big leagues?

Here is the hidden answer:

Johnny Vander Meer, Cincinnati Reds, mid '30's. The second no -hitter was also the first night game ever played in Ebbets Field, Brooklyn.

Just left click on your mouse, hold it down, and drag it through the open space above.

(I know that SPOTES, Liljol, and a bunch of you other know-it-all guys won't have to do this.)

Cloudy, if you go back in this thread to 6/25 you'll see you've already asked about Johnny Vander Meer which LILJOL answered.

Well, then you should know the answer.

Seeing that you have spilled the beans, I guess I might as well put his picture up here.

p.s. How in the world can you remember this stuff? :? I sure as Hell can't.

p.p.s. It's frightening when somebody else remembers what you have done better than you do. I guess I'm old enough to blame senility. ;)

"Big Popi" (Big Poppy) did it tonight, as the Red Sox beat the Twins. His Texas Leager hit pretty much won the game for the Red Sox. Yep, Boston might not make it to the World Series, but don't count them out yet...!

Image

If any of you out there don't already have a favorite baseball team, I ask you to consider the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are an underdog team, with a chance to beat the evil empire Yankees.

The Red Sox were chosen by most people around here to finish first in the AL East, so I wouldn't classify them as underdogs.

Frankly, I like the Sox and despise the Yankees. But here in Connecticut that's all one ever seems to hear about. Of course, it doesn't help that the Mets are boldly plowing through yet another season of mediocrity. But even if the Mets were one of baseball's strongest teams, in Connecticut they would barely be noticed (except for the 10% of us who follow them, of course.)

Where in Connecticut do you live...? Hell, I was born in New Haven. Though the family moved, and I lived in Upstate New York, in my younger years, I spent evey summer at my grandfather's house on Long Island Sound in West Haven, and at my other grandfather's home in Haddam. Later on in years, I had a girlfriend, Nancy Johnson, who lived in Milford on Bayberry Lane. I spent the spring semester and summer school at Mitchell College in New London in 1968. I could go on, but suffice it to say that I have many fond memories of the times I was in Connecticut.

p.s. I need to go back to the Peabody Museum at Yale one more time before I die.
