Okay, time has run out on this one. I didn't think the question was all that obscure, but it looks like it was. You probably had to be older to figure it out. Specifically, it would have helped, if you watched the TV "Howdy Doody" program back in the 1950's. The gal in the picture was Princess Summerfall Winterspring, who's name applies pretty well to the seasonal question that preceded.

The actress was Judy Tyler, who's short life ended in a car accident after making the movie "Jailhouse Rock" with Elvis Presley.

Image ..........Image

I never saw the Howdy show in color and I do not remember the PRINCESS in a hat. The picture looks like the empress Theodora. Good for Judy, I liked her.

I know the true story why Judy Tyler left the "Howdy Doody" show, but I will save that for another day.

Judy Tyler and several other cast members of the "Howdy Doody" show confronted the producers asking for more pay, because the show had become the #1 kids TV program, and making a gazillion bucks. (They should have been in the Peanut Gallery, because they were making peanuts at the time.) The producers basically told them to go F themselves, and fired them. Princess Summerfall Winterspring remained a character on the show, but now she became a marionette.

What about Chief Thunderdud and Cornelius T Cobb?

Cowabunga, Buffalo Bob...!

I'm not sure who the other characters were, who got fired with Princess Summerfall Winterspring. However, Chief Thunderthud and Cornelius Cobb did not get the axe.

What is the one sentence that Harold Camping will never get to say to anyone?

Image

See, I told you so.

This is a hidden answer. To see it, just left click on your mouse, keep it depressed, and drag it beneath his picture.

p.s. May 21, 2011 has come and gone, and we're still all here.

It wasn't that tough to see. And I'm sure you meant 2011.

The new date is apparently Oct. 21, 2011.

Guess the world will never end since we can't decide to believe either Camping or the Mayans.

I hate it when an two-time liar trying to make the Mayans liars.

Defending Governor Christie's helicopter flight to his son's baseball game in New Jersey...

Professional and military pilots are required to log hours in the air to maintain their flight status. Much of the time this means just taking off and boring holes in the sky, and doing nothing, but burning up fuel to get those hours. (Perhaps you could call it training, but for the most part it was just boring holes in the sky.)

I know this to be true, because I once was a Naval Aviator, who spent hours boring holes in the sky, doing nothing. Yes, it was boring... (We had to log the hours.) When the CO would tell us that there was a Colonel or General, who wanted to be picked up somewhere, and flown to Tokyo to go shopping, we were more than glad to do it. It didn't cost the Marine Corps one more cent than it would have, if we were just up there boring holes in the sky that day.

Who listens to "Coast to Coast" on the radio...?

I do from time to time, and I've noticed something.

Other than the Big Foot, ghost stories, out of body experiences, etc., bullshit they talk about, they sometimes discuss things that are somewhat political. Years ago the political stuff they talked about was almost always extremely liberal, but lately they have become much more conservative. Has anyone else noticed this?

Mugwumps, oh my God, are they are back...? I never thought I would have to deal with them again. Liljol, you need to find another party to vote for. There aren't a whole Hell of a lot of Mugwumps still around today. They really helped Grover Cleveland get elected, but he is now six feet under, and I would guess that most of the Mugwumps are down there with him.

Here's a shot of Lilol addressing the Mugwumps a few years back:

....................................................................... Image

.................... "Give me an "M", give me a "U", give me a "G", give me a "W", give me another "U", give me another "M", give me a "P", give me an "S". What does that spell...?"

MUGWUMP/ˈmʌɡwʌmp/

A person who remains aloof from controversial issues.

This archetypal American word derives from the Algonquian dialect of Native Americans in Massachusetts. In their language, it meant “war leader”. The Puritan missionary John Eliot used it in his translation of the Bible into their language in 1663 to convey the English words duke, officer and captain.

Mugwump was brought into English in the early nineteenth century as a humorous term for a boss, bigwig, grand panjandrum, or other person in authority, although often one of a minor and inconsequential sort. This example comes from a story in an 1867 issue of Atlantic Monthly: “I’ve got one of your gang in irons — the Great Mugwump himself, I reckon — strongly guarded by men armed to the teeth; so you just ride up here and surrender”.

It hit the big time in 1884, during the presidential election that set Grover Cleveland against the Republican James G Blaine. Some Republicans refused to support Blaine, changed sides, and the New York Sun labelled them little mugwumps. Almost overnight, the sense of the word changed to turncoat. Later, it came to mean a politician who either could not or would not make up his mind on some important issue, or who refused to take a stand when he was expected to do so. Hence the old joke that a mugwump is a person sitting on the fence, with his mug on one side and his wump on the other.

There is also a slangy sense — less known these days, I believe — of a person who has been persuaded by his possession of a minor official position into a sense of self-importance, often becoming obnoxious as a result.

Jeff Walker wasn't a Mugwump, he was much too boring. However, Arthur Brown, the last of the Mugwups, is worth listening to. Here is a video of Arthur Brown at a political fund raiser for the Mugwumps back a few years ago. I was there, and it sure was a political party with a lot of flare. I dare you to watch it. It might just get you to switch your party affiliation to the Mugwumps. Here we go:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x22nd8 ... n-19_music

You've gotta love it.

How did Liljol's party go down in flames with stuff like this...?

I'll be damned, if I am going to waste my time to try to try to recreate it tonight. However, I'll give it another shot tomorrow, good Lord willing.

p.s. I'll be talking about deceptive packaging, so put your thinking caps on... :D

Okay, back to packaging...

Yesterday, I bought a Kroger's "Nighttime Sleep Aid" box. It was large, and I thought, "What a deal". When I opened the box, I got a surprise. The box was twice the size it needed to be. One half had a bottle of pills, and the other side, which was designed to hold a second bottle, was empty. At first I thought that Kroger's had goofed up. That is until I read the small print on the box that said that it contained 64 pills. Yep, the one bottle that was in the box had 64 pills, but why would they put one bottle in a box that was twice as big as it needed to be?

I have often run into this deceptive packaging primarily with pills, where you can't see what's in the bottle. I'm sick and tired of buying bottles of pills that are four inches tall, with three inches of cotton on the top and only one inch of pills at the bottom.

Yeah, people should read what the box or bottle says, but when they are shopping, most only look at the size of the thing on the shelf, and never think that they are being deceived by deceptive packaging.

p.s. As much as I hate the government making laws that regulate businesses, I think that something needs to be done to stop deceptive packaging that tricks people into buying things that are much less than they expected. While shopping, most people don't have the time to read the fine print on everything they are buying. They trust their eyes when they look at the things that are on the shelf, and have no idea that they are being deceived by how they were packaged.

C.t.B. must have trained Stephanie the waitress.

Beef O'Brady's opened in Newport News a few years ago. Last month, they had BT installed. I went there Saturday late in the afternoon. Alas, too late to start solofest.

Upon receiving my beverage and playmaker, she noticed that of the many TV's none of the closer ones were on BT trivia. Without any prompting, she volunteered to "Let me switch that one for you". Seconds later, a disembodied hand appears over the divide holding a remote. A TV is spun, and her voice asks, "Is that the right channel, or the other one?"

It's nice to have another good option here on the peninsula.
