Okay Cloudy,

You want to turn this thread into cinematic guilty pleasures apparently.
Try Chosen Survivors and The Children on for size.

I'll see your Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and raise you another homage flick.
I found a movie that was made in 2004 that is an almost flawless homage to 70's "monster of our own environmental making" films. It is called Frog-g-g!
Storywise, much like its predecessors from the 70's, it's pretty much total crap. But its flawless mimicry of production values and story quality from that era is truly impressive.
Usually if I find fewer than ten errors in an undertaking of this sort I'm ecstatic. There were only two very minor errors that I saw and, please take my word for it, I have an eye for detail; or, as I have come to regard it, an "inflated sense of overcritical pedantism"...
If only Hollywood could put this much attention to detail into its "good" films...

Here's what IMDb says about tht movie:

"Frog-g-g! (2004)

"Chemical waste seeps into a small town's water supply, causing the birth of a mutant FROGGG which is instinctively driven to mate with its genetic match - human women. Sexy EPA super-agent Dr Barbara Michaels tracks the Froggg's every move, fighting off corrupt good-ol'-boy politicians and drunken rednecks at every turn. No one in town believes her, or the evidence, until the shocking climax when the Froggg is finally brought to justice... or IS it...?"

Here is a link to the "R" rated trailer to the movie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntZnYLiuOmE

(Little kids should probably not be allowed to watch it.)

p,s. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, but I was away, and when I got back I forgot. Please forgive me for taking so much time.l

Alright kiddies, give this one a shot. Perhaps one of the best "Buddy" movies ever... Running Scared

Billy Crystal & Gregory Hines were fantabulous in this 80's flic. You might actually think these guys were real friends. 8-)

"The Day of the Triffids" (1962) is a must for old timers, who love old sci-fi movies back when they were young.

Here is a lousy trailer for the movie. It doesn't even show you what a Triffid looks like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eCmqWDx5A4

Hell, Triffids or not, they let people smoke in hospitals back then.

p.s. After Googling the movie, I think it has been remade. There might have even been a TV series of it.

Obscure movies are not just old SciFi movies. Here is a more recent one that IFC classifies as a black comedy:

Synopsis: In 1847, many Americans made the journey across our continent in search of gold. Many failed to complete the journey or see their dreams come to light. Capt. John Boyd (Guy Pearce) found his way here thanks to an act of cowardice during the Mexican-American War; he has been banished to a desolate military outpost in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. Upon his arrival, he is greeted by a rag-tag group of soldiers manning the fort: Hart (Jeffrey Jones), the despondent commanding officer; Toffler (Jeremy Davies), the company chaplain; Knox (Stephen Spinella), the drunken doctor; Reich (Neal McDonough), the only real soldier of the group; and Cleaves (David Arquette), the heavily medicated camp cook. One day, Colqhoun (Robert Carlyle) stumbles into their camp. The half-starved Scotsman had been traveling with a group of settlers until they were snowbound. Unable to move forward, they took refuge in a cave, where once they ran out of food, they were forced to resort to cannibalism. Colqhoun barely escaped the madness -- or did he? Boyd and the soldiers hear of the old Indian legend of the Wendigo, which states a man who tastes the flesh of another steals that man's strength, spirit and essence. His hunger, however, will become an unstoppable craving. Like a vampire, the more he eats, the more he wants, and the stronger he will become, with death the only escape from the madness. The soldiers are soon drawn into the frenzy and Boyd is soon left with the choice of eating or being eaten."

I figured out at the end that this was an allegory of America's Manifest Destiny. I recommend it. The acting and writing is is great and you will recognize all ofthe actors.

"Ravenous" (1999) sounds like an interesting movie. I guess I will need to check it out.

Here's a link to a brief video of the movie, but I don't think it will get anybody excited enough to watch it.

p.s. Frank, if you can find better film footage of this movie, please give us a link to it.

"Fiend Without a Face" (1958) is another old sci-fi monster movie that those of you, who enjoy this type of movie must see.

Cloudy, that movie reminds me of "The Tingler" starring Vincent Price. An excellent horror movie from the 50's.

You are so right again... Yes, "The Tingler" was very much like "Fiend Without a Face". Bob, someday when neither of us has anything to do, we need to get together, with a case or two of beer, and watch these old sci-fi, monster movies together until the sun comes up in the morning.

(I've got most of them somewhere in my basement.)

Usually if I find less than ten errors in an undertaking of this sort I'm ecstatic. There were only two very minor errors that I saw and, please take my word for it, I have an eye for detail; or, as I have come to regard it, an "inflated sense of overcritical pedantism"...
If only Hollywood could put this much attention to detail into its "good" films...

SPOTES, it is not very often that I disagree with you, but I don't think "Frog-G-G!" comes anywhere close to the "Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" as a convincing modern remake of the old sci-file movies that we loved to watch back in the 1950's and 1960's.

You're allowed to disagree, Cloudy.
Just make sure that:
a) your disagreement is based on accurate interpretation of info; I said it was an impressive remake of 70's monster films, not 50's or 60's ones
b) you have the necessary info to make proper value assessments; have you seen the film in question or are you merely working off someone else's synopsis?
c) your own opinion is stated in clear, concise fashion; e.g. neither film is a "remake" - they are both satiric efforts reflecting a genre of film from a previous era

See how easy this game is?

I've never seen "Frog-g-g!"... I just read IMDb summary of it and watched the trailer. Yeah, this may have been a rush to judgement on my part. I'll check the Internet and see if I can pick the movie up.

I went to the link you gave us, and watched "The Brylcreem Boys" until the point where the pilot found out that he had bailed out over Ireland. So far it looks like a good movie to me. I should probably add it to add to my collection.

Yeah, I thought the same thing too about the trailer, after watching the beginning of the movie. A lot of the trailers I've seen really suck, and don't give you a true idea of what the movie is about. Don't worry, I still think "The Brylcreem Boys" is a movie that I want to see and add to my collection. :D

I thought we would never be able to see the Disney movie "Song of the South" again. That is until a received an e-mail today that said it was being released again. Check it out, and pick it up, if you can.

In my opinion this is NOT a racist movie. I believe that it respectfully depicts a culture from the past that future generations should not be denied to see.

Image

p.s. Maybe the "Amos and Andy" TV series will someday receive the same respect. I found the series on the Internet, and the Black actors, who preformed in this comedy series are really pissed off that our politically correct world keeps everyone today from being able to watch their acting, and the humor they did so well.

Image

These people were great actors, and very funny. Why would anyone want to deny us from being able to watching them...?

"The Thirteenth Floor" (1999) is truly a sci-fi, mystery movie, that you must see. I know that I've posted a bunch of "B" movie recommendations up here, that really weren't great, but this one ain't a "B" movie, and really IS great...! I won't give the plot away, and if you really want to enjoy the movie, watch it with no idea as to where it is going. I really think everyone, who sees the film, will enjoy it immensely. (This is a very strong recommendation.)

Here's a link to a trailer for it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkEHcB4y7R8

(I might suggest, if you actually plan to watch this movie, that you DO NOT watch this trailer, because it kind of tips you off to what is going on. The movie is much better, if you do NOT know what is going on, and let it unfold by itself, and surprise you.)

p.s. There was another movie by the title "The 13th Floor" (1988) that has nothing to do with my recommendation, but as I recall, it wasn't all that bad.

I guarantee that you will like it...! Just don't find out anything out about the movie before you watch it. Go in cold, and let it surprise you.

I think it's about time that I should hit the sack, and you should probably do the same thing. It's getting kinda late. Goodnight, my good friend.

I've seen "UHF" (1989), and loved it. I thought it was funnier than Hell. Great recommendation...! (My old buddy at Merrill Lynch, Johnny Tiano, told me to get the movie and watch it. Thanks Johnny, even though I doubt you are monitoring the "ScaRatings".)

I think that any movie that has someone in it teaching poodles how to fly, is a MUST to see!

Here's a linki to "Raul's Wild Kingdom" show on UHF:

(Animal lovers don't worry. No Animals were killed or harmed during the making of this movie. Hmm, not so sure about the ants.)

Not only did I love this Weird Al Yankovic movie, but his satires of music videos and parodies of movies are a scream also.

Here's a link to his "I'm Fat" parody:

Here's a link to his "Jurassic Park" parody:

Here's a link to his "Indiana Jones" parody:

These are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many more. Weird Al is a zany guy, and does some pretty funny stuff.
