Another Bad Clue... Image

3:30 P.M Pacific Countdown game, Q5; something like "All of these U.S. Presidents were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, except...

Choices (IIRC) - John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan.

First clue - "DON"T JIMMY IT LOOSE"

You're right. It has been fixed.

Looks like Jimmy Carter was once an answer but someone changed it without fixing the clue. :(

In tonight's SciFiles, the answer to Q8 was (apparently) "Robert Silverburg." The problem is that "Robert Silverburg" was not one of the choices. The final clue pointed to Silverburg and he was mentioned in the post-answer blurb, but "John Vance" was listed as the correct choice.

You're correct. Thanks for pointing this out.

Showdown on Tuesday (8/2). Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact wording of the question, but it asked something about which tree was most closely related to another tree. "Walnut" was the desired answer. I seem to remember that the factoid after the question stated that they were from the same genus, which our botanist insists is not true.

Please tell me that was how it was actually spelled on the screen.
If so, it would have the additional allure of being mis-spelled.
I've always suspected the NTN monkeys of randomly inserting extraordinarily badly written questions for funsies.
And it looks like you just found a golden ticket.

We had Silverberg. Akbar spelled it wrong. :)

The question and fact referred to "species," which I believe is also incorrect. (I have limited Botany knowledge). "Family" would seem to be the correct word that should have been used.

There was one rather funny 'factoid' Tuesday evening - I think in the Countdown before Glory Daze, but I could be mistaken. The question was 'What is a Yellowhammer?' and the correct answer was 'a bird' if I remember correctly. That's fine - it is a local name in the SE US for the Yellow-shafted Flicker, currently considered to be the eastern subspecies of the Northern Flicker, a common woodpecker. But the factoid said something like "It's a member of the finch family, the Northern Flicker". That elicited groans from everyone playing!

Categorizing animals can get confusing at times. I rewrote the fact as the yellowhammer being the state bird of Alabama.

Well, apologies in advance to TomD or whomever else from The Content Team sees this lil nitpick. :|

Wednesday evening, the factoid of one of the Countdown game questions said something about "...AIRCRAFTS..." :x Seems like "AIRCRAFT" would have sufficed.

It may just be close to another one, but I seem to recall that _exact_ same question about a year or two ago in Sci-Files. Including the same non-listing of the right answer. I remember quite vividly we got one right like that. I'm almost sure it was Silverberg, and that the "gimme clue" said something about "Silver" and Crackhead or Scar (can't remember which), who had guaranteed Silverberg, weren't very happy.

Correct, although since they used to be the Wizards the question is still reasonably okay, it's not as good as it should be. We will fix it. Thanks!

You didn't do a replace all where like aircrafts did you? If so, we may end up with some "HAIRCRAFT"! :)

Hey TD,
Saw a question last Monday that asked for the first album released by Alice Cooper.
The answer they were looking for was Love it to Death. That was the third album by Alice Cooper. His (their) first album was Pretties for you.
It may have asked for earliest, but I think it said "first".

The question asked for first "major label" debut album. That's up to interpretation so I have rewritten it with Pretties for You as the answer. Thanks for pointing this out.

Well, time for another edition of liljol's lil nitpicks , for games from Tuesday, 8/23/2011...

2:15 P.M., Q7 - The question asked about the Newberry Award. However, both the question and factoid showed "NEWBERY". :(

3:00 P.M., Q1 - Question was about David slaying Goliath. The factoid was probably supposed to end with "BRAWN", but "BRAUN" showed instead.

3:15 P.M., Q10 - Question was about Columbus' flagship, Santa Maria. The factoid referred to his other two ships as "THE NINA" and "THE PINTA". Suggest that the quotes enclose only "NINA" and "PINTA". Image

Nothing major, TD
There's a question about the Ton Ton Macoutes where the factoid mentions Francois Duvalier and his first name is misspelled "Francios".
