Eventually it will be right. Or so I tell Buzztime on their Facebook trivia threads, where I enter that answer on every question. ;)

What is the first name of the American League's first batting champion, in 1901?

I posted this seven hours ago and am a little surprised nobody has come up with the answer yet. Certainly I disagree with BO's assertion that it's "a ridiculously hard question"; I'm sure he has the same resources to look up the answer that I have.

If nobody posts the answer by 9pm EDT tonight, then I will post the answer here.

Somehow I missed Mays in referencing this question after being wrong with my initial thought. Was thinking you had to go all the way down the list to Rafael Palmeiro. So obviously not as difficult as I was thinking. My bad.

Palmeiro may well be the answer to the career home run leader who never won a HR title. At one time the answer to that question would have been Stan Musial.

LilJol, why do you hate the Red Sox so much? I might be wrong, but I don't think you are a Yankees fan. What's the deal here? If you let me know, perhaps I can change your mind.

Hells bells, CLOUDY. I do not hate sports teams (no, not even that eternally damnable junior university, either Image). IIRC this was already discussed; to summarize in two words...Tom Yawkey, for whom I will never change my mind. Image

Yawkey died in 1976. I believe we have alread discussed his racism, that hurt the Red Sox, as when Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson tried out for the team, but were not signed. I think it is a mistake to judge people, who lived in a different time by today's enlightenment. It certainly appears that the Red Sox have put Yawkey behind them, and have moved on. It's time for you to put Yawkey behind you, and move on also. :D

Who was known as "Mr. Sunday", "Charlie Sunday", or something close to those two nicknames? I tried to Google it, but came up with nothing. However, I know my answer is right, but the nickname might be a little bit different from what I remember.

After two toughie questions, I thought I would put a very easy question up here.

Who was known as "Mr. October"...?

I can already hear those keyboads racing to get this one first.

This one isn't too difficult to come up with the answer for.

Eddie Yost. He played mainly in the '50's, I think for the Senators. The source of that nickname seems pretty obvious; good thing he wasn't a pitcher.

You're thinking of Charlie Maxwell, outfielder for the Red Sox in the early 50's among other teams.
I've usually seen him referred to as "Smokey" Maxwell, but he was also called "Sunday Charlie".

Nice call.
A more current incarnation of this nickname is one of my faves.
Kevin Youkilis has been nicknamed "The Greek God of Walks".

ZOG, you are absolutely correct, and I thought your "good thing he wasn't a pitcher" comment was very funny.

Way to go, big guy.

How many other Ted Williams nicknames can you remember?

Phenominal answer, SPOTES. You came up with the right answer, even though I asked incorrectly. You sure know your baseball...!

p.s. I think Charlie got this nickname, while he was playing for the Detroit Tigers. (Yep, I think he started out with the Red Sox.)

Good answers, Liljol. I believe, when Williams first came up to the Big Leagues, he also had the nickname, "The Kid". There might be more, but those are all of them I can think of right now.
