GAVV, nah, I haven't heard "It's the fish". I need some help here, please post more about this. As it often happens, your post probably went over my head, but I can learn. :D

(Belated edit. Yep I now know what "It's the fish" refers to, thanks to the link you gave me. I feel like an idiot. It is one of my favorite movies.)

"The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh" (1979) !!! GAVV, that is one of my favorite movies. Great recommendation...! For those of you, who like basketball, exciting, and funny movies, this is one you should see. Heck, even if you don't like basketball, see it anyway. I think you will enjoy it. The ending might even bring tears of joy to your eyes.

Here's a link to the beginning of the big game (Not the beginning of the movie.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVdbYX3MtlY

Here's a link to The Sylvers singing the theme song fron the movie, "Mighty, Mighty Picses". They do a good job, and the song is kind of catchy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly0EJD8yfPQ

Here's a link to the tryouts. This will definitely be a team that will pass any human resource person's test for diversity, "with one exception".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZEdqZl3YD8

Here's a link to some movie footage of the Pittsburgh Fish actually playing basketball:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOuI0rXr ... re=related

With Dr. "J", Meadow Lark Lemon, and Set Shot Bufford, on the team, do you think a miracle will happen, and this team of misfits might be able to pull it off...? You will have to watch the movie to find out...

p.s. GAVV, keep your recommendations coming. You are off to a good start.

This movie is neither obscure nor one I like, but...
I finally got around to watching Inception and I have to admit that I don't get all of the critical buzz that this movie generated.
Are people that impressed by gravity-free environments and other computer generated hokum?
I heard over and over how complex this movie was supposed to be.
Really? These folks should watch Passage to Marseilles with it's five-layered flashback story telling technique and get back to me.
This movie wasn't even as convoluted as The Big Sleep (Bogart version, natch), for crying out loud.
If anyone would care to explain its mass appeal, I'm always willing to learn.

"Inception" and "Passage to Marseille" are two movies that I know nothing about.

Do I have the right movies?

Please tell us more about them.

You'd like Inception a lot, I think. If you want to watch it in the full theatre experience (minus the Imax), drop by my house sometime and I'll drop in the Blu-Ray and turn the surround sound up loud enough to blast everyone out of the neighborhood ;)

I started this thread with the recommendation of the movie "Idiocracy". I have a feeling that very few of you (perhaps none of you) have bothered to watch it. You have no idea what you are missing out on. This is a movie that you MUST see! Yeah, it's not a great movie in the sense of "Gone With the Wind" or "Casablanca", but it is a great movie in its own right.

If you can find some time between playing "Buzztime Trivia" and posting to the "ScaRatings", you really need to get this movie and watch it. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. You will laugh your ass off. I'm sure that after seeing it, you will thank me profusely for putting you on to it, and you will more than likely tell your friends that they should see it too. It's kind of a silly spoof, but the spoof is so close to the truth, that it is tremendously funny.

I will be waiting to hear your raving comments about "Idiocracy"...

p.s. If you think you are smater than Joe Bowers, you might just become the leader of the World in the year 2505, but you will never find out, if you don't watch this movie.

I had already seen it before your recommendation, Cloudy.
In an effort to spare your feelings, I will abstain from my review.

For all the kids out there into Korean revenge flicks, Man From Nowhere is a solid effort.
It's sort of a pastiche of The Professional and Man on Fire.
The dubbing voices are gratingly annoying, though, so use subtitles.

Maybe you did, but as I remember, it was my brother, Brian, the lawyer in Austin, TX, who told me about it first. He was an extra in the movie, with about a half a second shot, when the president's motorcade is going down the street.

Image

In less than 5 seconds, if you look very quickly, you will see my brother, Brian, standing on the curb on the left, just after the president's motorcyle passes the bus.

Oh, come on, don't be a fuddy duddy... Get a twelve pack of beer (maybe a case), and watch it again.

I've got a feeling that you may have watched the movie from a serious, critical point of view, and were sober at the time. Wrong way to see it. This movie is a farce, but a poignant farce, that is filled with silliness, but that silliness actually might not be all that far off as to where our country is headed.

Damn, better yet, watch the 6:00 o'clock news, get a fifth of Maker's Mark, and watch "Idiocracy" again. With a little buzz on, I think you will like the movie next time you see it. :D

p.s. Thank you for not raining on my parade. :D

I think it wasn't a very good movie. That said, I think it contained a lot of really funny ideas, and is worth at least one watch.

"Attack the Block", hell it looks like fun, light, sci/fi, horror movies. Sounds like one I need to pick up.

Here's the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUFaLAMojfA

JIM, this might be my kind of movie. Please tell us more about it. That is, without giving the plot away, who wins, or how.

Thanks for your recommendation. If you have more, post them up here.

"It wasn't a very good movie"...? Come on, don't apologize for liking a movie that won no Oscars, had no stars in the cast, and never tried to impress you with profound dialog, or deep emotional meaning. "Idiocracy" was a much more entertaining and enjoyable movie than "Titanic", "Gone With the Wind", or "Casablanca". Yeah, it's not a very good movie, if you are looking for profundity. However, if you want to laugh and have a good time, IT IS A GREAT MOVIE...! It will never bore you, while waiting for something of interest to finally come up after sitting in your seat for what seems like an eternity, polishing off a box of stale popcorn, and trying to stay awake before it gets you going again. This movie doesn't have to be profound, it's funny, and most will really enjoy it. Some may miss the subtle humor that lies below the surface, but those, who pick up on it will enjoy the movie even more.

p.s. I'm not picking on DANTE. I actually discussed "Idiocracy" with him tonight, and he really likes the movie.

Awww, c'mon Cloudy. You know as well as everyone else that has seen that sorry excuse for a movie that it is plebeian at best. Dante perhaps put it best when he said it is worth one watch & that would be it. There is a reason no one outside of the trivia community has heard of this dog. This dog don't hunt.

I need some help on this one, and believe me it is very obscure. There was a movie I saw once probably in the early 1970's, that I can only vaguely remember. It was a western, where some guy and gal run into a group of outlaws. I can't remember the title, or the plot. However, the ending was kind of interesting, because as I recall, after you thought the movie was over, and the girl got raped by the outlaws, or something like that, it didn't end. The movie continued, and gave you two or three very different endings.

I will be forever thankful, if one of you smart movie buffs can come up with the name of this movie.

That's a toughie.
Your plot description is a seemingly common trope of 70s westerns.
That being said, try going to Wikipedia.
It has a fairly comprehensive listing of movies by genre and decade.
Just type in "70s" and "westerns" and let the research begin.

Thank God, now I know that I am not the only person this happens to. When the "ScaRatings" didn't give me the option of deleting my duplicate post, I just made some other post up and replaced the duplicate with something else, that kind of went along with what was being discussed.
