This used to happen on the Buzztime forums too. That's why if I am working on a longer post, I copy it and paste it into notepad every now and then, as previously suggested above.

Dante,
Your knowledge of computers is vastly greater than mine, and, I expect, Cloudy's as well. I have had the same thing happen to me many times, and have taken to highlighting and using Control C to copy it about every 10 minutes or so, so that if it disappears, I can hit Control V and make it magically re-appear. I suppose that that is what you computer cognoscenti mean by copying and pasting it to Notepad. I have had the same thing happen with e-mails, so I suspect that it is from accidentally hitting some key or combination of keys on a standard keyboard (other than delete). I have no idea what PHPBB means but if you know of some key or combination that tells it to go to a previous page, please tell us so that we can avoid it. Thanks.
That is indeed what I mean by copying it notepad.
PHPBB is PHP Bulletin Board, which is the software that this board, and hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of other boards run on.
There's no way I can override Windows or browser shortcuts, and it isn't an actual problem with PHPBB that causes it. Usually it happens because you've told the webpage to go back on accident.
My best guess -- and I think it's a good one -- is that when this happens you (general you, here), have clicked off the message box on accident and then hit backspace. When you aren't in a typing box, backspace "goes back" to the previous page; yes, I agree this is an absolutely idiotic shortcut and is counter-intuitive. You can test this by clicking reply on a post, then clicking off the message box to anywhere else on the page and hitting backspace.
Here's a little secret for when it happens, if it does -- sometimes, but, not always, you can hit the forward arrow in the top left of your browser and it will take you back to the page you were on with the text you were still typing there.
I do understand the frustration. I am on a few other message boards where my average post length is something in the realm of four - five pages, and I've had it happen before, especially, as said, after a few brewskis (by the way, do not post on private science forums after having a few brewskis; especially do not attempt to do math). I understand completely the frustration of not wanting to re-type everything.
By the way, if you happen to use a laptop (which I do not think Cloudy does), you may also want to look at turning Tap to Click off on your mousepad. This is absolutely the most common cause of "clicking on accident" I've seen in all my years fighting with soulless computers.
Edited to fix Quoting
