Yes, that's definitely it. You're on this very beautiful paradise of an island when a zombie apocalypse hits and it's up to you and your friends to survive, find answers, and get off the island. They've even been airing commercials for it on most stations but definitely an addicting game. I like how it's a level based system. you get your choice of four different characters to play, and each one is specialized with different kinds of weapons (Guns, Blunt Weapons, Sharp Weapons and Thrown Weapons). Basically you get XP for doing different things, helping people out and of course, for killing zombies. As you go up in levels, you get skill points that you can spend on various things too. There's always objects to find and a quest (and a zombie) around every corner. :-)

I've been busy with work and other things going on but I'm usually not far from the boards and pop in now and then.
Can't stay away for too long. :)

Thanks Tony, I just bought "Dead Island". Your recommendation and the videos of it I watched on the Internet convinced me that this would be a good game to play. I went to Amazon.com tonight and picked it up. At first, when I saw that they were asking close to 50 bucks for it, I thought that was more than I wanted to spend on a game, no matter how good it might be. However, I kept looking and found it for just $17.99, and ordered it. I can't wait 'til it arrives, and I can do battle with the zombies.

p.s. If you like doing battle with zombies, you might want to check out "Martian Gothic, Unification". It is one of my favorite games of all time. If you scroll back, you will find two rather lengthy posts on this thread, where I talk about it. It is not just a shoot out, kill 'em game, it also involves a lot of problem solving. I do not believe that it will run on Windows 7, and you will need to go on the Internet and download "patch 3", after you install it to be able to complete the game. Anyway, check it out. I think you will like it, and you can probably pick it up these days for around ten bucks.

Image

Here's a link to the beginnings of the game. (It only gives you a hint as to all of the zombies you will meet):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0c2RpgpTAY

Here's another link to a video of the game, that some guy put on the Inernet, with his comentary for the scenes he showed. It's not great, but you will get to see a few battles with the zombies. (I should add that some of the Vita Base personnel, who have not become zombies, have morphed into terrible monsters that are extremely difficult to kill. I should also warn you that you will run into places, where you will have to deal with at least three or four zombies attacking you at the same time.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQeHTSFs ... plpp_video

(Even though the narrator on this video tells you that the zombies are dead for good, after you have killed them, he is wrong. They are only dead for a short period of time, and will spring back up to attack you again.)

p.p.s. Heck, go out there and waste the cost of three large mugs of beer, and get this game. That is, as long as you have a version of Windows that it will play on. :D

p.p.p.s. I believe that the best description of this game is on page 15 of this thread.

The "Pogo.com" website offers a gazillion online games you can play. Check it out.

Here's the link to it:

(There may be a better link, but this is what I came up with tonight.)

"Art of Murder, Cards of Destiny" looks like it might be a pretty good game. I found it in the catacombs of my basement, while looking for other games you sent me down there to find. I believe you might need to have the CD inserted to play the game.

Here is one screen shot from the game:

Here's some video of the beginning of the game:

If you are a gamer, I've got a feeling that this is one you should play.

p.s. Have any of you already played this game? Let me know if you have.

p.p.s. I've got a feeling that you can probably pick it up for a song these days. I should also add that it runs just fine on Windows 7.

DANTE, please tell us more. I asked you a few questions about this game on an earlier post on this thread. The two that I am most concerned about are:

1- How much will it cost?

2- If people have not played the "Elder Scroll" games that preceded it, will they be able to jump in on this game, and have a clue as to what is going on?

"Drawn 2, Dark Flight" arrived today... It loaded up just fine on Windows 7, and I don't think you need to have the CD in the drive to play it. I only played it for about ten minutes, but so far it looks like another great game. I've got a feeling that it might be tougher than the first "Drawn, The Painted Tower" game. This game does have hidden objects that you have to find, but they all part of regular game play. It might be premature, but I think that this BrandyB's recommendation to play this game is a good one.

"Cleopatra, Riddle of the Tomb" loads with no problem on Windows 7, however, it does not to seem to play well on that operating system. The game screens flutter while you are trying to play it, as if an earthquake was going on. It is a game from "The Adventure Company". These guys put out really good games, so I think the problem I have with it isn't the games fault, but that Windows 7 just doesn't like it.

Obviously, I have never played this game beyond simply loading it, and about 3 minutes of actual game play. However, all of "The Adventure Games" that I have ever played have always been pretty good, so I will say that if you are not yet using Windows 7, this is likely to be a pretty good game.

Here is a link to some video of how the game looks:

Cost about $60. You should be able to jump into it, yes. The better question is whether your computer will run it :)

DANTE, 60 bucks is too steep for me these days. For those of you out there who can afford it, I would be surprised if it wouldn't run on Windows 7.

"Drawn 2, Dark Flight" continued...

I have now gotten pretty far into the game. It isn't easy. I had to consult a walkthrough, use dozens of hints, and skip quite a few puzzles. However, this game has NO stupid hidden object scenes, where you have to find 15 things, and only one of the things you find has anything to do with advancing in the game.

I think I was very close to the end of the game, when I ran into a problem. I made it to the villiage square with the huge statue of a man playing a violin.

Image

I believe I was able to light one of the beacons, after which the hint told me to find the three (maybe four) marionettes. I looked everwhere, but couldn't find them, so I decided to backtrack. I went back quite far, and could not find them anywhere, so I decided to go forward to where I was. Big problem, I cannot get back to where I was. I believe I need to go down the spiral stairs in the pop-up book (The one with the rain drops, Cloud, and sun puzzle.), but the stairs no longer work, and I am stuck there.

Image

(The spiral stairs appear in the middle of the big circle in the center, and they are still there as I try to go forward again. They just don't work.)

BrandyB, I hope you can help me here. Thanks.

I may have already put "Syberia" up on this thread already, but if I did, it deserves to be up here twice. It is a great game. I recommend it to all of you.

I just loaded it to my new computer running Windows 7 with no problem. It comes wth two CDs, and you need to install both of them to play the game. (CD 1 has to be in the drive to play the game.)

.............................................. One of the places you will go.

Here is a link to some video of game play:

This is a great game, that you really should play. I'm pretty sure that you can pick it up for just a few bucks these days.

Go for it, I promise you will not be disappointed. :D

Welcome to DANTE's "Scyrim": (Sorry, you have to suffer through a commercial, before the trailer begins.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fv ... uK3GGppPpM

(Damn, it looks like a great game.)

p.s. Whenever and if ever it gets cheap enough to buy, I plan to pick it up.

p.p.s. Is there anybody out there, who is an "Elder Scrolls" nut besides DANTE, and CLOUDY? (Yeah, CLOUDY has yet to get started, but he is chomping at the bit, still trying to get the earlier "Elder Scrolls" games to play on Windows 7.

Cloudy, I haven't gotten that far in the game so I'm not sure what to do. Sorry. Wanted to let you know bigfishgames.com is having a sale on a great game today for only $2.99. It's called PuppetShow: Souls of the Innocent. Highly recommended.

It looks lke it might be a pretty good one.

p.s. Brandy, if you play farther into "Drawn 2: Dark Flight" and get to the giant statue of the guy playing the violin, please let me know where I went wrong.

p.p.s. I went to BigFish Games, and tried to buy "Puppet Show: Souls of the Innocent" tonight. Yeah, it was advertised there, but their web site screwed me around. First it told me that I was already a member. Then it told me that my password didn't work, and that I should go to the "forgot my password" link. They sent me a new password, but that didn't work, and said something like "You are already a member." I finally gave up, after retrying to buy it for about half an hour. :x

BrandyB, this is for you, but others might want to listen too.

I just started playing "Syberia" again. It's been several years since I last played the game, but I think you will enjoy it. It is NOT one of those stupid hidden object games, though you do have to find things. It is totally a problem solving game, but I do not think it throws any puzzles at you that are not actually part of playing the game. I've had a little trouble trying to get started on it. However, I will give you this hint, when you go down the street to the Notary's house (It's a big fancy house, after you pass the bakery moving to your left.), and the mechanical man puts his hand out at the door, give him FAX 2 that you should have in your inventory, plus you will have to hit a few buttons on him to gain access. If you don't have FAX 2, go back to the hotel, and get it from the desk clerk. I have just gained entry to the toy factory, but am stuck. This is a fairly challenging game, and I think you will like it.

This is one screen shot inside the toy factory, but we've got a very long way to go...

Image

Here is some more video of the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2jOdWNUDzQ

Here is some video of the game's ending.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhYuEjPdIgA

This game will take you to all sorts of places. The game is not easy, but for those of you, who are true gamers, I would say this is a MUST...!

p.s. If you like this game, I'm pretty sure that there is at least one sequel.

p.p.s. I think you can pick this game up for less than ten bucks these days. Again, it run's perfectly well on Windows 7, but you have to have disc 1 in the drive to be able to play it.

DANTE, many, many pages ago on this thread we discussed why females where less likely than males to play pc computer games. One idea that came out was that computer games featured more male protagonists than female. However, I no longer believe that to be the case. I may be wrong, and I haven't counted all of them I have played over the years, but from the games I've played, I think that there are as many games that feature female characters as males, if not more.

p.s. In the last "Tomb Raider" game I played, they introduced a male character (I've forgotten his name.) to help Lora Croft out. He was terrible. He was so bad that I could not move beyond him, and his inability to slay the giant monster he had to take care of. So, I gave up on the game, and have never finished it, even though I had to have been very close to beating the game. This is the only "Tomb Raider" game that I have played and not completed.

I'm curious as to which Tomb Raider that could've been. I was big into those games when they first came around and then slowly started getting into other games instead. It seemed there for awhile that they were kinda hurting for good storylines for them and we're just doing like a collection of "best of" type stories with her. Obviously I stopped playing them long before this guy came around.

good job on getting Dead Island at a nice price. It's a very long, in-depth, and detailed game. Definitely a little on the gory or graphic side as any zombie-apocalypse type of game is going to be. What I love about it is how it uses an experience point/level progression type system....similar to final fantasy if you've ever played any of those games. As you go up in levels, you get more skills and get tougher...but then so do the monsters. That and it's wide-open how you use your weapons and customize them finding modifications along the way. It's been a very addicting game for me. And getting back to the female hero chat you'd mentioned, you start with your choice of one of four people and two of them are female as well. each person specializes in a different way to fight....edged weapons, blunt weapons, thrown weapons, and firearms.

Hope you enjoy!
Cheers,

Oh, my gosh... Tony, thank you for waking me up. "Dead Island" has never arrived. I guess I will need to check out what is going on, but it might just be easier to buy it again.

Image

Back to your other question. I believe the game was "Tomb Raider 6, The Angel of Darkness" and the inept male character was Kurtis Trent.

................ Image

.................................. "Boo, Get the hook."

In my opinion, this is a good game, and if you can somehow get the slow moving, slow aiming, bad shooting, idiot, Kurtis Trent past that big monster, it would be a great game. (Maybe there was some trick here, but if there was I couldn't find it out after consulting several walkthroughs.)

Here's some video of "Tomb Raider 6, The Angel of Darkness":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoDjCH_5EAg

Ah, what the heck, Tony, go out and get the game and give it a try. I really think you will like it. Actually, I'm hoping that you will be able to figure out how to get Kurtis Trent past that big monster, and tell me how to do it.

p.s. I got close to beating the game a bunch of times, but the inept Kurtis always died every time he had to slay the big monster, and I finally gave up.

p.p.s. Have you considered getting the "Martian Gothic: Unification" game, that I recommended to you earlier? It is one of the best games I have ever played, and I think you will like it. It ain't easy, but besides walkthroughs, you've got me to help you out. I've beaten the game twice, and can help. Check out my post about this game on page 15 of this thread, if you decide to play this game, I think my comments will help you a lot.

Here's a link to some video that might get you interested to playing the game:

On another thread I mentioned "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (1984) to ZOG. He seemed interested, so I will put it up here. It is one of the classic Infocom games from the very early days. (It was Infocom's 14th game.) It is a totally text based DOS game with no graphics. This really isn't so bad. It's just like the days before TV, when we listened to the radio, and our imaginations filled in the pictures for us old farts.

Image

Here's a link to a good introduction to the game:

http://www.gameanyone.com/video/317578

(I believe if you Google it, you can find more of the introduction...)

I would have thought that I could find a site that would allow you to play the original "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" on line, but I couldn't find one. Maybe you can. Give it a try. If you cannot find one either, I'm sorry to say, that this game will not play on any modern versions of Windows, and you will have to figure out some way to emulate it, if you want to play it.

p.s. If you do find a site that will allow you to play the game on line, please give us the link to it. Thanks. :D

p.p.s. An updated, altered version of the game may exist.

I might have already mentioned "Maria Wars". My housemate, DHB, plays this Internet game every day. I have never gotten into the game, and I think for those that do, it might become addictive.

This is not a recommendation from me. It is just a thought that you might want to take a look at.

Here is a link to it:

http://www.mafiawars.zynga.com/fbconnect?

This might be a link to some video of the game, but I wouldn't swear by it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avIO7acF9Kc

David also tells me that, if you are on "Face Book", that web site also gives you a link to this game, as well as several more games. As I understand it, "Mafia Wars" is a game with no end. It is a game where you interact with other people on line, share and trade things, moving towards something that has no end.

p.s. There is likely some fighting also involved, but I am only guessing, as I have never played it.

p.p.s. Supposedly there are 8 million people playing this game on line. I have a hard time believing that number, but that is what they say. I will not move that number to 8,000,001.

p.p.p.s. I hate to tell you all this, but there is now a "Mafia Wars 2". :(

p.p.p.p.s. I've got to ask myself, why would there ever be a "Mafia Wars 2", if "Mafia Wars 1" has no ending...? :?

(Have any of you guys or gals ever played this game?)

I do remember that Tomb Raider game. it had kindof a bizarre ending that they never really expanded upon if I remember correctly. The first few games were really good and then it seemed as if the story lines kinda got weaker and weaker.

I'm really enjoying dead island so far as it does have a very good story to it. There are a ton of side quests to do in the game and I'm glad I bought a strategy guide to go with it but if you don't have one, just check the info/faqs section on www.gamefaqs.com. They have walkthroughs and quest listings on there, as well as other things.

I would even sacrifice graphics and gameplay for a good story in a game. I'm hoping I get Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 for Christmas. Resistance 3 would be cool too. I guess it's a season for 3's. LOL.
Cheers,

Thanks Tony, I still need to find out why the "Dead Island" game, that I bought on Amazon.com has never arrived.

Are you telling me that you have played "Tomb Raider 7, Dark Angel" and made it to the end? If that is correct, how did you get Kurtis Trent past the big monster in the amphitheater. As I vaguely recall, you had to blast it four times on different sides, or something like that. It was a long time ago that I played this game, and my failing memory tells me that every time, Kurtis died after he was just one short of moving on, and the game ended.

Well, my friend, your memory isn't the only one who's failing in your older years. I'm sure I've played this one and probably still have it. I'll look through my old games and see. may have to play it again now, just to refresh my memory. I could look through my stack of game guides as well. I never bought a tomb raider game without one. I don't use them for every game, but for Tom Raider, they were a must.

Cheers,

Tony, thanks for replying, but I don't think my problem with getting Kurtis Trent past that beast wasn't because I didn't have a walkthrough that told me what to do. I can promise you that I cheated, and knew what the walkthroughs said I had to to. I blame the problem on Kurtis, but perhaps the problem is that CLOUDY is too old and too slow to get Kurtis to finally kill the beast in the arena to move on to beating the game.
