"Mysterious Journey II" (2003) (Also known as "Schizm II, Chameleon") is the next game from the catacombs of my basement that I will try out.

I just loaded this game to Windows 7. You need to install all 3 cd's, but once you've got them in, you can play the game from your hard drive, without needing a CD sitting in a CD drive.

I only played it for about four or five minutes, but already I know that this game ain't gonna be easy, and a walkthrough guide might be needed to keep you from punching your monitor out.

Anyone ever play this game? it looks like it will be a fun, but a difficult challenge.

p.s. You will need to right click on your mouse to move forward.

(Update: I Googled a walkthrough for this game, but it still seems almost impossible to figure out. This ain't a game for newbies. Just inches into it, I know that this will be a very challenging game. I ain't gonna give up on it just yet, and will keep ramming my head into the walls, trying to figure out what to do, or where I need to be going. So far I've opened a door, got a card, and gained access to the mesh bridge that goes off to the left. WOW...!)

I will only recommend this game to very experienced gamers, but I don't think they will be able to get very far into this game, even with a walkthrough.

Good luck, guys and gals... This is a toughie... Let me know, if any of you have played this game in the past, or if you are now.)

Does anybody remember the old "Road Runner" game that most video arcades had back in the late 1980's or early 1990's. I played the game many times, but I could never beat it. It was a fun game.

Image

"Beep Beep"

Here is a link to some video of the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx00J-jQTCE

(The beginning of this video shows you some action shots from other arcade games from that time, but they are very brief. You also get some commentary from the guy, who put this on the Internet.)

p.s. Real road runners don't eat bird seed. This is what wiki.answers.com has to say about what they eat:

"Roadrunners are relatively large birds. They mainly eat meat, meaning lizards, mice, other birds, snakes and bugs. They supplement their diet with vegetation. Roadrunners get most of their water from the foods they eat (meaning meat). They can fly short distances low to the ground but much prefer to spend their time on two feet. Roadrunners can reach 17 mph.

Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_roadr ... z1kdhVqOqO"

p.p.s. LilJol brought this game to my mind on the "Obscure Movies You Like" thread. Thank you LilJol.

I stumbled across "Schizm, Mysterious Journey" tonight. It is the game that "Mysterious Journey II" is the sequel to. (A couple posts above, I talked about "Mysterious Journey II".) "Schizm, Mytsterious Journey" comes in a 5 CD box, and CD1 installs onto Windows 7 with no problem. However, after it is installed, the game immediatly launches itself, and you start playing. In a very short while, the game asks you for CD 2. I screwed around with it for a short time, and all of a sudden the game wanted CD 1 put back in again.

This may have been their way to protect against people pirating their software, or I may just be confused. I'm not quite ready to write this game off. I'll probably give it another chance, but at this point I cannot recommend it to anyone.

Has anyone ever played this game, who can help me out

Here's some video of the game that goes far beyond anywhere I ever got:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6e4eRUM ... r_embedded

(Belated edit: This could be the worst video walkthrough I have ever seen. I think the guy, who made it, has had as many brewskis as I have had watching his totally unhelpful video walkthrough. My suggestion at this point is to find a better walkthrough or play another game. If you have nothing better to do, count how many times this guy says "Um" at the beginning of his walkthrough.)

wow, for some reason I don't remember the Road Runner arcade game by Atari. I'll definitely have to see if I have it as part of the many games in my MAME emulator and check it out. Somehow that one must've feel thru the cracks. It's all Acme's fault.

Cheers,

Video games may be moving into new areas, if the White House has anything to say about it...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... 52908052/1

Here is Ms. Steinkuehler:

Image

Here's what they say:

"Steinkuehler studies video games. Since last September, she has been a senior policy analyst at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where she's shaping the Obama administration's policies around games that improve health, education, civic engagement and the environment, among other areas."

Hell, if the President really cared about video games, he should have given me that Tsar appointment. I can guarantee you that Ms. Steinkuehier has never played 1% of the video games I have played since the the early 1980's. Hell, she was probably in diapers back then, if she was even born yet. Sounds good, it looks like the White House is going to try to get video games to focus on "health, education, civic engagement and the environment, among other areas."

I think the truth is that they don't care about computer gaming, making it more exciting, or more fun. They think they can use it to indoctrinate kids into what they want them to think. Good luck... Kids aren't that easily indoctrinated. (I know, raised three of my own.) They will always want to play computer games that are fun, and will shun games that tell them to eat broccoli.

Image .......... [Image

........................................................ Which of these games are kids most likely to want to play...?

p.s. I wonder how much Ms. Steinkueheir is costing us. Hell, I would have taken the job for FREE...!

p.p.s. Try Googling Ms. Steinkueheir's salary. I can't find it.

"Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas" installs on Windows 7 with no problem. I have had the game for years, but just got around to taking the cellophane off of the box, opening it and sliding the CD into my computer. So far the game looks like a stinker. The game tells you the moves you need to do with your sword by clicking on the keyboard, with different combinations of letters, as the bad guys attack you. I was killing most of them, but my life bar kept going down, down, down... until I was dead. I never got beyond the ship's main deck, and I have no idea how many more bad guys were still waiting to take me on.

I don't think this is my type of game. Have any of you ever played it?

Here is some video of the game, that I never got to:

"Peril at End House" (An Agatha Christie Game) was somewhat of a disappointment once I installed it, and started to play it. I was expecting another problem solving mystery game, but so far it is only a "hidden object" game. I played it for a while, and will probably go back to it, when I have nothing else to do. It isn't a bad hidden object game. Many of the hidden objects are hard to find. However, I must think that Agatha is rolling in her grave every time somebody plays this game, that bears her name. Agatha sent me a message from the other side, and said, "Cloudy this game is not my cup of tea.", and so far I tend to agree with her.

If you are into "Hidden Object" games, I think you might like it. That is the best I can say. Perhaps it might get more interesting, if I play it more. I'll let you know if it does.

Here is some video of how the game begins:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8JQdURIBPk

(Don't worry, the goofy cartoon stuff is only at the beginning.)

Again, maybe it will get better, if I play the game farther, but so far it has only been a dumb hidden object game.

p.s. I don't believe you need to keep the CD in the computer, once you have installed the game to be able to play it, and it does put a quick link icon on your desk top.

p.p.s. The game installs with no problem on Windows 7.

"Scratches" is yet another computer game that I found, which I have never played. It looks like it could be a good game, BUT, look out...! I installed the game twice on Windows 7, and both times it seemed like everything was fine, until I tried to play it. The first time I thought it was just some kind of a goof up, when it made me have to reboot my computer. However, after the second time that it did the same thing, I DO NOT THINK THIS GAME WILL PLAY ON WINDOWS 7.

Maybe it will play on earlier versions of windows...?

Has anyone ever played this game...?

Here is a link to some video of how the game begins:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On3LQLjHz4o

Damn, it looks like a great game. It is most disappointing that it doesn't like Windows 7. :(

p.s. As I watched the video of this game, it said something about downloading a patch. Perhaps that will get the game to run on Windows 7, but pesimist that I am, I wouldn't bet on it.

Thank you, DANTE. I went to the web site you have me in the e-mail. I had to register with it, and it said that the game would only cost me $9.99 to download. The download has been going on for over an hour now, but I'm hanging in there. (Sure hope that it is still running in the background as I am typing this.)

Assuming that it installs to a temporary file, when it finishes, I'm afraid that won't be able to find it. If I can't, I will call you for more help.

Thanks again.

Cross your fingers, if all goes well, "Seventh Guest", HERE I COME...!

p.s. Am I right, is this download coming from some place in France...?

p.p.s. Is this the link you told me to go to?

http://www.dotemu.com/en/dotemucom-re-l ... -11th-hour

SHIT THE WHOLE DAMN THING JUST CRAPPED OUT...! IT SAID THAT IT WAS AT OVER 80 MEGABITES DOWNLOADED, WHEN THIS HAPPENED. NOW, I AM BACK TO SQUARE ONE. I'm starting it again, going to bed, and praying to God that somehow it downloads while I sleep.

Image

Goodnight, I'm going to bed.

Bad news about downloading "The 7th Guest"...

Last night I gave up on watching the download as time went by, so I went to bed and let it run for however long it might take. This morning I got this:

"Some Installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy, and retry installation."

I also got this "CRC failed in common zip. Unexpected end of archive."

The download that failed used up 20% of what I am allowed on my Verison Mifi connection for the month, but I will give it one more try.

p.s. It said that the file was only 284.556 KBs.

p.p.s. I screwed around with it again tonight, but the download seems to have disappeared. I NEED HELP.

p.p.p.s. I've e-mailed them about this problem, and waiting for them to respond.

"The Expiriment" (2007-2008?) has 2 CD's that you need to install. They install with no problem on Windows 7, and put a short cut icon on your desk top. I don't think you need a CD in the drive to play the game.

I haven't gotten the gal out of the room she awakens in yet. It looks like this game might be tough, but it might also be a good game. I will need to fool around with it for a while to try to figure things out.

Has anyone else ever played this game?

The game seems to have several names. Here is some video of it of places I have yet to get to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNtHFHhvwSM

(Belated edit. My friend, Dave, and I tried this game again tonight. The game play is very complicated, and requires that you lead your character from room to room by clicking lights and cameras off and on, that you find on the map for her to progress. Other than that you have no control over what she is doing. This is an EXTREMELY TEDIOUS game, and I cannot recommend it to anyone.)

I actually do have Road Runner in my MAME set and was playing it the other day. The game is pretty hard or at least hard to play on a keyboard. The whole gist of the game is going down the road and getting these seed piles. The problem is when you miss one because Wiley E. is right behind you the whole time. Definitely don't remember coming across this one back in the day tho.

Cheers,

Tony, trying to play the old arcade game, "Roadrunner", on a keyboard would have to be next to impossible.

It was pretty tough. Depending on the type of controller some of those games had, some can be next to impossible. The hardest ones were games that used a trackball...especially if you don't have one.

Tony, can you get trackballs, joy sticks, or whatever you need, to plug into your MAME system to make the games easier to play?

p.s. You might want to contact YODA about this. He knows MAME forwards, backwards, and eveywhere in between. You may very well know MAME as well as Y0DA, but if you get in a pinch, I would say YODA is a good guy to go to, when it comes to MAME.

Yesterday, I made an amazing discovery while going through the dozens and dozens of boxes cleaning out my mother's attic. Near the bottom of one of the last boxes, I saw it, and could not believe my eyes. There it was in nearly perfect condition, the "Installation and Game Rules" manual to the 1st Magnavox Odyssey home computer gaming system, all 33 pages of it. (Copyright 1972) (Magnavox later came out with an improved "Odyssey 2" system.)

I learned that you could actually play 12 different games on it, when it was originally released. (Another source suggests that 8 more games for it may have come out later.) To be honest, I don't remember all of these, and perhaps the basic system didn't include all of them, but here is the list:

1- Table Tennis
2- Tennis
3- Hockey, Face Off
4- Cat and Mouse
5- Football
6- Ski
7- States
8- Roulette
9- Haunted House
10- Analogic
11- Submarine
12- Simon Says

(There even was a "Great Lakes Bonus" game connected to the "States" game.)

Sadly, there is a problem. The physical game console, none of the game cartridge cards, none of the overlays, or anything else that you need to actually play any "Odyssey" games are anywhere to be found in my mother's attic. However, I do have the manual, just in case I run into the missing stuff at a yard sale someday.

wow very cool pictures. Yep, definitely a precursor to the Atari 2600 and Intellivision. I never had one of those but absolutely loved my 2600. I wouldn't have known what to do with an Odyssey when it came out anyway. I was two years old in 1972. LOL Thinking of my days in front of that Atari, remind me of the countless hours I spent at my Commodore 64 as well back in the day. There was a Commodore Vic-20 before that which had a whopping 20K of memory :-)

Tony, I never got to play anything on an Atari 2600 or a Commodore 64. You have just given me a challenge from the past that I would like to take a look at. I'm thinking that I might find them somewhere on eBay, and pick them up. If I can, are there some games that you might recommend?

you may spend more money than you might think in that challenge though. I'm not sure on how much the Atari system and some of those retro games are going for these days, as well as the old Commodore systems. I'm glad I never got rid of mine. They're safe inside my upstairs closet in pristine condition. Games for the Commodore were either in cartridge form or on 5 1/4" floppy. One of my favorite games back then was for Commodore called "Impossible Mission". it was made by a company called Epyx and you had to go through this madman's lair searching for clues and then put them together and figure out a password before time expired. It was way ahead of it's time. I'd love to see someone re-vamp this game.

Cheers,

wow very cool pictures.

Cheers,

Tony, I never got to play anything on an Atari 2600 or a Commodore 64. You have just given me a challenge from the past that I would like to take a look at. I'm thinking that I might find them somewhere on eBay, and pick them up. If I can, are there some games that you might recommend?

Cloudy, before you buy an Atari on EBay, let me know. I have one I can give you

However, I do have the manual, just in case I run into the missing stuff at a yard sale someday.

p.s. For those, who might not know it, the Magnavox "Odyssey" was the first home computer gaming system to hit the market.

Here's a link you might want to check out:

Cloudy, I curious. Did you actually play this Odyssey, or did it belong to someone else in the family? Did you play any console game systems?

Cloudy, if you still have the Odyssey stuff, please bring it with you the next time we get together

YODA, I've got the original "Odyssey" manual and a brief introduction pamphlet for you when I get back to Louisville. I will be more than happy to loan them to you for a free ride out to play trivia and a couple free beers to boot.
