Oh dear. :( "Mysteries of Cleopatra" is a collection of slot games, but doesn't have the added hidden object games.

The "Mysteries of Cleopatra" (2010) arrived today... It took quite a while to load, and requires that you have the CD in your computer to be able to play the game. I dutifully registered the game, and have it's icon on my desk top. The game came without instructions, but I thought I could stumble my way into it. WRONGO...! Even though it looks like I'm all set to go, nothing happens, even though I've clicked all over the place, and tried everything I could think of that might have got the game started to no avail. LilJol, I need help getting this game off of the ground.

p.s. If the "Mysteries of Cleopatra" doesn't have any "hidden object" games, GOOD...! I've got so many hidden object games already that not adding another one is no problem, and probably more like a blessing, as most of them are vacuous wastes of time. (I need to say though, that many of the "Big Fish" hidden object games are actually pretty good. Even though many "Big Fish" games contain an element of dumb "hidden object" screens that you run into every once in a while, they are for the most part puzzle and problem solving games, which are fun to play, and somewhat challenging at times.)

I was going to talk about some other computer games tonight, but I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so goodnight I'm going to bed...

Image

Belated next day edit: Here is a link to a "You Tube" video of what the game should look like, once you figure out how to get it started:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SIMa854InE

LilJol, I'm a thinkin' that this game might be just a little too complicated for my lil brain to figure out... :(

(The "Slingo Quest" picture was as far as I got last night, as my keyboard and mouse both decided to stop working at the same time, before I could complete my post. Obviously, I have finally resolved the problem, or I wouldn't be here today. I won't go into all of the details, but for many hours I was thinking, "Shit... I'm Fuc...ed!")

Back to "Slingo Quest" (2006). Initially, it was an on-line game that began in 1995, where you competed against others, and I think you can still can do it. (I believe the on-line game is simply called "Slingo", at least that is what it used to be called.) The game is a cross between slot machines and Bingo. If you're smart, you will figure out a tiny bit of strategy, but for the most part the game is luck. You can get the game on a CD now. (Actually, there may be several versions available.) I will recommend this game for those of you, who play solitaire and other similar games on your computer to just kill time. The CD gives you the choice of playing the "Classic" version, which is how the on-line game worked, or the "Quest" version, which adds a lot of new twists.

I haven't been playing the CD game very long, and have scored 31,929,636 points and have earned 9 of the possible 12 stamps that the game awards. (If in the unlikely event that any of you ever try this game, I would be interested to know how well you are doing.)

You can probably pick the game up for less than ten bucks, and if you're tired of playing the Windows solitaire game to kill time, I think you will find "Slingo" to be more fun. :D

Here's some video of what "Slingo" looks like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQu_iTKrMbY

p.s. I found the quadruple cards most complicated, and playing against the pirate most annoying in the "Quest" part of the "Slingo" CD game.

p.p.s. Use your Super Jokers wisely, and use them FIRST! (The Super Jokers have blue hats, and you can use them in any column, The regular jokers have green hats, and can only be used as wild cards in the column directly above them.)

I've been pretty addicted to Rage lately. It's a game from ID Software. The same people who made Wolfenstien and Doom. Rage is a post apocalyptic mad-max kind of world. Pretty intense first person shooter as well as when you're in a vehicle. Not only do you build up your weapons arsenal during the game but also your cars by winning races. The graphics on this game are very cool as well. It's definitely worth a look if you own an XBox 360 or PS3. I got it for christmas and didn't get around to playing it until a few weeks ago but am now hooked.
Cheers,

I'm hooked on Angry Birds :D

No penguins, but maybe I'll figure out a way to crash a black bird and a white bird together

So "Rage" is all the rage... I'll check out what it costs on Amazon.com, and as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'll get it, and give it a shot...

Here's some video of the game, looks good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJyRukVk2uc

p.s. I'm glad I watched the video, because the title of the game made me worry that there might be some violence involved in playing it. TIAMAT, I think this game has some brief action that might make it a wee bit inappropriate for you to suggest it to the 6-year-olds in your bible study class to play as an assignment.

p.p.s. I just bought the game on Amazon.com. Some scumbag, DBTech, was selling it for just $7.99, and I almost bought it from him, before I noticed he was charging six bucks for shipping as I was about to check out, so I bought the game from a place that was charging a little bit more, but had reasonable shipping charges, and saved a few dollars. I'd like to find out where these scumbags hide, and drop in to say, "Hi!" someday.

well yeah but you can't really have a post-apocalyptic world without a little violence here and there. if it makes you feel any better, all the people you kill are either bandit gangs or mutants. lol.

Like Arnold said in "True Lies" when his wife asked him if he'd ever killed anyone...."well yes...but they were all bad". LOL

Good, we just kill bad guys in "Rage". Just so long as no waterboarding is involved, I think I can handle the violence.

p.s. Maybe they aren't really bad guys. Maybe we should try to understand them...

"Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island" (2009) is an absolutely wonderful game. I saw it sitting in the ever dwindling rack of PC games at Walmart for just $9.99. It wasn't another dumb hidden object game, so I bought it. The game is phenomenal...! It's fun. It's funny. It's challenging. It will require that you think outside of the box. It will provide you with hours of entertainment, and when you're done, you will want to play it again. This is a strong CLOUDY recommendation...!

Here are two links to some video of the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTFzukigq4c

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&featu ... U0B2gsgb_U

The game isn't easy. You control three characters, Papa Doc, Blue Belly, and Jane Starling. Parts are a little tedious, but you have to look at and try to use everything they encounter. (To easily find things they can interact with in a screen, depress the "Tab" button on your keyboard.) Much is a waste of time, but you have to check everything out, if you don't you will miss important discoveries that allow you to progress in the game. Combining things in inventory is often critical. It is also important at times to have your three characters exchange things and ideas in their inventories.

This game is very reminiscent of the "Monkey Island" series of games. Computer games that might be a little bit silly, but make you think to try to figure out what to do are getting very hard to find these days.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Elsewhere, I have already suggested that JESSE reminded me of two people. They were Hugo (Hurley) Reyes from "Lost", and the movie director Guillermo del Toro.

Image ..............Image
.................................... Hurley....................................................................... Guillermo

I know that you guys are wondering where I am going with this. "Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island" has given me a third JESSE that reminds me of his daring, creative, problem solving abilities. That would be my favorite character from the game, Blue Belly. Yeah, Blue Belly is just a computer cartoon character, but he has all of JESSE's mannerisms, facial expressions, voice inflections, and corny comments.

.....................................Image

...................................................... "Blimey, you bilge rats, here's another Jesse joke. Laugh or walk the plank."

p.s. I finished the game tonight, with a little help from a walkthrough a couple of times. However, for those of you, who are not as impatient as I am, you can get through this game all on your own. Nothing is impossible to figure out, but some things took so long that I sadly resorted to a walkthrough at certain points. (As I have said before, I don't mind spending days trying to figure my way through a game, but when it starts to look like a problem will take months to solve, I'm going to peek at a walkthrough.)

TIAMAT, you must meet JESSE someday. He is both Hurley and Blue Belly as well. They look like him, they act like him, and they think like him. If Hurley and Blue Belly played Buzztime trivia, they would surely be able to handle five boxes, as JESSE often does, and rank high on Network Rankings, as JESSE always does.

Ah, another "Slingo Quest" player is out there. I should have guessed that it would be my "Big Fish" game buddy, BrandyB.

Brandy, I've had the game for quite a while, but just started playing it a couple of weeks ago. So far I think I'm doing pretty well. My total score is now 104,594,624. I've collected 60 Keys and 291 Stars so far, as well as 10 of the possible 12 Stamps, and the game now gives me the rank of "Champ". In addition to the "Classic Slingo" game the "Slingo Quest" part throws 60 different spiced up versions of the game at you. The game keeps track of your scores as compared to ten (probably fictional) computer players that your scores are ranked against on each game.

I have the names of nine of them. They are Sal, Mike, Angela, John, David, Jon, Eric, Sean, and Val, and on each game's leader board their highest scores to beat are always ranked in that order. I've been hammering away at them with a vengeance, and I have only 10 games left where Sal still has a better score than I have been able to put up there on the 60 "Slingo Quest" games. (I own all ten top scores on the "Slingo Classic game. My highest was a 90,000 plus score.) My highest score on any of the "Slingo Quest" games was on "Port Devil". If Sal was a real person, and ever came back to playing the game, I think he will have a hard time beating my 59,528,800 points on "Port Devil" the last time I played it. Not joking, I really got that many points on one game.

p.s. For the uninitiated, different "Slingo Quest" games, have different formats, different degrees of difficulty, and VERY different possible best scores.

p.p.s. Brandy, Don't you just hate it, when you're doing really well on one of the games, and the God damn Devil pops up and steals half of your points on your next to last spin...?

Here's a little video of game play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQu_iTKrMbY

(Belated edit: I have now beaten the hated Sal's top scores on all games except "Craziest", and have collected all 12 Stamps.}

Image.......... Image

..................... The 12 Stamps ...................................... The islands where you will find the 60 games.

(Another belated edit as of 6/12/2012: I now have a total of 120,919,632 points. I have earned all 12 stamps. I have all 60 keys, one from each of the 60 games is the most you can get. I have 296 stars. The most stars you can get is 300, five from each game. However, more importantly, I have taken over the #1 spot from the evil Sal on every single game. In fact, I have replaced Sal and his minions from the top ten spots on the games' 60 leader boards with Cloudy, for nearly every single game. Got four more stars to get, and wipe out the lest vestiges of Sal and his gang on a few of the remaining tough games.)

I've played Slingo, and it is rather fun, but there's far too much reliance on dumb luck to achieve the really good scores

Kinda makes me feel like I'm playing Blur all over again

PENGWN, my God there are three of us now, who will admit to playing "Slingo"...!

Yes, the original "Slingo Classic" game involves a great deal of luck, as do the 60 spiced up variations of the game on "Slingo Quest". However, if you are the consummate gamer that I know you are, you should figure out that even though the game is primarily luck, there are also strategies that will give you an advantage over those, who just hit "spin", and then click on anything that matches. What you match, and when, are crucial to doing well on the "Classic" version, especially, if you are playing the game live online against real opponents. It is a disastrous mistake to set things up so you will make "Slingos" and earn points early in the game, if you can avoid it. Why risk losing those points to a Devil, who you know can rob your points at any time. Hold off as long as you can before making Slingos in the "Classic Game". As you approach the end of the game, the number of times the Devil has the chance to pop up, and steal your points, greatly decreases. Earlier in the game, if you've held back, and the Devil steals just a few points, you're pissed, but you haven't lost all that much. Plus, the game is going to only throw so many Devils at you. Let the Devils snag small numbers of your points early in the game, and cross your fingers that you will make it to the end without a Devil popping up again. Also in this game, it is usually a mistake to use a free spin near the very end of the game, when you still have two numbers to match in the same column. Yep, you might luck out and get a super joker, and the other number you need, but the odds ain't good. With two numbers you need to match in the same column near the end of the game, it is wiser to buy the spin than waste a free spin. Of course, if you still have three or four unused free spins remaining, you can forget this advice.

The strategy on the multiple box "Slingo Quest" games is much more complicated, but I have found a system that works pretty well. Using it I was able to score 59.528,800 points on one "Port Devil" game. ("Port Devil" has four boxes that you have to play at the same time.) Yes, of course there was an element of luck, but without my strategy, no element of luck could have got me there. You need to position yourself, so luck near the end of the game can bring you to the promised land.

To explain my four box strategy here would take much too long, but for you, or anyone else who might play "Slingo Quest", and would like to know the system I've figured out for multiple box games, send me a private message, and I will tell you the deep, dark secrets. (There's no silly trick. It is just a system.)

I hope that you do get to meet JESSE at "Triviapalooza 5", but he has moved a long way from the Louisville area, and he may have to consider others' wishes before he is allowed to drive that far.

I will try to make it to "Triviapalooza 5". However, I have a very full plate of things that might take precedent over it. I'll do my best to try to be there. :D

Tony, as you know, I went out and bought rage. It arrived two days ago. However, I've got a problem. It refuses to install on Windows 7. The installation process sends me to something called "Steam" first, which I'm pretty sure is an extra with the game that let's you play "Rage" online with others. The "Steam" installation requires you to set up an account with them, before you can install "Rage", which I have tried to do, even though I don't want to. However, after many attempts, it will not work, and it looks like I will never get to play "Rage" on my computer, if I am unable to figure a way to get by this impasse.

Can you help me here? Did you run into this problem? Is there any way I can bypass the fuc..in "Steam" crap, and just install "Rage" that you know of? :?

Here's a link to "Steam":

http://store.steampowered.com/

Even though the God damn thing won't work, "Steam" has the gall to put it's fuc...in icon on my desktop, and pop up every time I start my computer.

Image

Quite frankly, "Steam" has got me steamed.

Image

Yes, and in a RAGE as well.

I will try to make it to "Triviapalooza 5". However, I have a very full plate of things that might take precedent over it. I'll do my best to try to be there. :D

I hope you can make it. I'll even buy your first beer!

Then I can have the pleasure of banning you from Bargo's, and telling baseless lies in your absence :P ;)

PENGWN, I'll try my best to be there. I'm sure that everyone besides me knows the dates, but I don't. Please tell when it is. Thanks.

p.s. Being banned from Bargo's doesn't sound all that bad. I just hope I don't get "Barred Out"!

"Joan Jade and the Gates of Xibalba" from Big Fish/Viva Media/Alawar Games (2010) is what I would consider a primer game for those, who have never played a hidden object and puzzle solving game before. It's fun, but not very difficult for those, who are used to these games. However, for those, who are new to this type of game, I think it might be a good one to start with. It will give you an idea as to how these types of games play. You might get stuck every once in a while, but you should be able to figure your way through it, with only minor snags along the way.

I finished the game in about 30 minutes this afternoon, and there is no need to resort to a walkthrough to complete the game for those, who have played this type of game before. Even if you are new to this genre of computer games, I don't think you will need a walkthrough either. I would say that it is a game worth playing, and I believe you can pick it up for a song. I can't remember, but I think it comes on a CD with some other games as well.

Here is a link to some short video of the game:

Triviapalooza is July 20-22, or thereabouts. Definitely the third full weekend in July. I probably won't be arriving until Spotlight hits the screens, though, but my bus schedule is far from complete

PENGWN, thanks for telling me when it will be. I will do my best to try to be there. I have no idea what things in my life might prevent me from being there, but without more surprises, I think there is a good chance that I will show up and buy your a couple beers. :D

Cloudy, you better be there. Last year I had to feed Pengwn fish by myself alone. Tiefly did water him with WV spring water.

Really? I don't remember that. Of course, that stuff is not renowned for its mnemonic benefits :D
