Now that the games of the Triple X Olympiad have started (well, in a few hours, because Football starts before the opening show), I will start the tread for those who would like to talk about Olympics

For the record, I was researching books on the olympics, just for the heck of it. Cloudy, Cassius Clay won the gold medal as a Middle Heavyweight in the 1960 Rome Olympics. Not as a Super Heavyweight

I'm going to toss three free trivia notes (note, the below is of the modern Olympics. I don't try to guess what happened before 1896).

First, this is the first summer games where women and men will compete in the ALL events. Boxing, Judo, Wrestling. There won't be any sport played by a man that a woman won't participate.

Second, London is the Second city to host olympic games three times. Debate-able, Athens hosted 3 games

Third, only three countries have hosted the summer and winter games in the same year (note, yes, this can't happen again). France 1924, USA 1932, Germany 1936.

Now, for an easy challenge. London will become the first city to host 3 Summer games. The USA, as a country, has hosted the most games Winter and Summer. Please list the 6 cities that have hosted olympic games in the USA

Feel free to post as you wish about the games.

Now, let FOOTBALL start the games.

The 1906 Olympics are not recognized by anybody.

St. Louis, LA, Lake Placid, Squaw Valley, Atlanta, Salt Lake City.

I can't remember who won the ballroom dancing gold medal that year anyway...

And from what I was told, if you have cable or satellite TV, you can set up an account on NBC's web site and see every minute of every sport. I'll believe it if I can watch all 6 women's football games today. Then again, I don't plan to watch all 6 women's football games today, so.....oh well

Well, Team USA is off to a good start, with a 4-2 win over France in Women's Football

Have my list of sports and disciplines plus the schedules. Should be no problem to watch every sport at some time, but watching every discipline will be most difficult. Women's football can be ticked off the list.

I don't know about the ballroom dancing, but Tug of war was won by the Germans over the Greeks. I guess the Germans used all their best men to win that war.

YODA, I have given you ample time, after talking to you, to correct your incorrect suggestion that I thought Cassius Clay was a super heavyweight in the 1960 Rome Olympics. If you will recall, I told you the reason Cassius didn't win the heavyweight gold was because he didn't box as a heavyweight. I guess I was wrong to assume that he won the gold as a middleweight, but I NEVER SAID HE WAS A SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT, and you know it, God damn it...!

I would greatly appreciate it, if you would correct this, so others, who read your post, don't think I am a complete idiot.

p.s. For everybody else, YODA thought Cassius Clay won the heavyweight gold in the 1960 Rome Olympics, until I told him differently.

Olympics 101?
They have lowered scholastic expectations.
It's a survey course at best.

Don't forget that the women have an extra event to compete in late in the Olympics: synchronized cycling...

Have been able to watch 23 of the 39 Olympic disciplines so far. TV only, streaming does not count. Working hard on getting the women's weightlifting visuals out of my head.

I remember that course, it was between recess and lunch.

I'll save the Gordon Wood regurgitation for later.

That's impressive. I've only watched maybe half a dozen so far. But how many episodes of Laff-A-Lympics have you watched?
On Boomerang during the Olympics they are rerunning this classic Saturday morning cartoon of competion between the Yogi Yahooeys, the Scooby Doobies & the Really Rottens.

Sadly, I will try to watch some Laff-A-Lympics. My favorite was the one or two episodes where the Really Rottens won!

Um, no such thing as middle heavyweight. Clay won the gold in 1960 as a light-heavyweight.

Okay, answer this. Where did police officer Joe Martin sit down with Cassius, and talk him into going to the Olympics despite his fear of flying? (Hint, it was just across the street from my old house on 6th street.)
