Damn, another movie I need to get. Heck, I'm living on Social Security these days, how many more of these recommendations can I afford to buy, or see, before time runs out on me...?

Here's a snippet of the movie:

"Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" (1969) starring Roy Thinnes (Star of the great TV series "The Invaders".) is a movie that any true sci-fi aficionado needs to see.

Here's the trailer:

Here's some more footage from the movie:

"Hellgate". I last saw this movie around 1958 on TV and have not seen it again until a few days ago. I liked it as a 10 year old. I just saw it again a few days ago and as someone now in his 60's thinks it is really a damn good movie. I thought it was lost, but it is still around on The Encore Western cable channel.

Frank, "Hellgate" (1952) looks like a good movie that I have never seen. I will have to go and find it to buy on the Internet. Keep 'em coming, big guy. :D

"The Last Starfighter" (1984) is a neat fantasy sci-fi movie, which I recommend to any, who have never seen it. (Especially those, who once loved to play those old video game machines at the arcade, or at bars.) I think you will enjoy it, as well as your kids or grandchildren. It isn't a classic cinema drama that will ever show up on any of the media's top 100 movies. Maybe that's good, because this movie is just fun to watch.

Here's what iMDB says about it:

"A video-gaming boy, seemingly doomed to stay at his trailer park home all his life, finds himself recruited as a gunner for an alien defense force."

Here's the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7NaxBxFWSo

Here's some more footage from the movie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLNvUsTBGyE

If you watched the video on the above link, that wasn't bad shooting. However, I think most of us old video arcade game guys could have held our own too. If Centauri had only selected one of us instead of Alex, I'm sure that we could have saved the Universe also...!

p.s. The Last Star Fighter holds a secret, that JESSE figured out, which all Buzztime trivia players should know... ;)

"The Philadelphia Experiment" (1984) is a pretty good sci-fi, time travel movie. The movie's origins arise from a very questionable conspiracy theory about a U.S. Navy cloaking experiment that went bad during World War II. (There is a least one book out there, which claims the story is true, and if you listen to "Coast to Coast" on late night radio a lot, I'm sure the story will surface there every once in a while.) I won't give any more of the movie's plot away. If I did, I would spoil the movie for you. I liked it, and I think most of you will too.

(I believe there was at least one sequel to the movie.)

Here is the trailer:

If you like Stirling Hayden Westerns, you should like "The Last command" IMHO the best Alamo movie ever.
You can see the whole movie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr5jsSBB ... 0A&index=1

Frank, sounds like another good one I need to see, so it looks like I now have to pick up "The Last Command" (1955) and watch it. I am starting to worry if my social security checks will provide me with enough extra discretionary money to buy all of your recommendations, and if the good Lord will be so kind as to give me enough time to watch them all.

This is obscure because it is a short, but it is nominated for an Academy Award. I think it is a very nice little movie. "Adam and Dog" :

Note: edited by Dante -- the attached link may have been infected -- have had a report of someone who loaded it immediately being infected by a virus, apologies

Here's a tough one that I need some help in figuring out.

There was an old black and white World War II movie I saw many years ago, which I would guess was probably made somewhere back in the 1940's. I vaguely remember it being about an American or ally spy, who had infiltrated some kind of NASI installation as one of their own. The installation was heavily guarded, and entering it required everyone to pass through a metal detector. The spy figured out a trick to be able to get a gun (or maybe a bomb) past the guard.

The trick he used was to walk through the metal dectector one time with his keys in his pocket, which set the detector off. The guard stopped him and found the keys. The spy said something like, how stupid of me, and entered the installation. Later when the spy entered the installation again, he set the metal dectector off once more. The spy faking stupidity said something like, "Oh, I forgot about those damn keys again.", pulled them out of his pocket and tossed them back to the guard, who laughed at him, and let him go on without searching him. However, this time the spy was also carrying a gun (or maybe a bomb), which he got into the installation. Whatever it was, the spy was able to disrupt or destroy the NASI installation with what he snuck into the place.

I know that this doesn't give you much to go on, and I might not have the story right, but if anyone has an idea of what movie that was, I would love to know.

Can you let me know the symptons. I or my wife do not seem to have any problems on our computers and my virus and security checkers report nothing.

Frank, here's what happened.

Last night I clicked on the link to "Adam and Dog". It was a cute cartoon, but about halfway through it a screen popped up from the "Internet Crime Complaint Center", and everything froze. It said:

"Your computer has been blocked. The work on your computer has been suspended on the grounds of the violation of the law of the United States. To unlock your computer and to avoid legal consequences, you are obligated to pay a release fee of $400."

It went on to give me a number of options to pay the fine.

I knew this was bullshit, but my computer would no longer work no matter what I tried. I rebooted it a number of times, but could get no farther than the desktop, when the same damn thing kept popping up, and completely blocked all functions on my computer. I tried starting it in the Safe mode, but that did no good either. At this point I called DANTE, told him what was going on, and asked him if he could help me fix it. He gave me a number of ideas, but again nothing worked.

Today I talked to "PC Tuneup" and their people at Advancedtechsupport.com, who told me there is a good possibliity that it was just coincidental that the virus took over my computer, while I was watching "Adam and Dog". They said that there are sleeper viruses, that hide on people's computers for extended periods of time until something triggers them.

I think DANTE was just being cautious, when he removed the link from your post. You're probably okay, and the problem is most likely something that was on my computer.

Cloudy

p.s. I never got to see the rest of the cartoon. How does it end?

(Belated edit: The tech, who's fixing the infected computer, told me that this is the second time he has run into this virus in the last week. It looks to me like this may be the virus de jour.)

Okay, but how does it end? I only got to watch it up to where Adam was with the woman, and the little dog felt left out.

The dog searches for them after he was abondoned, and eventually finds them and the three walk off into the sunset together.

Sabotage Agent with Robert Donat?
I definitely recall some sort of metal detector in the power plant he worked in as a spy in that flick. And I know he smuggled in explosives of some sort because he blew it up.
I sure hope that's it because I'm drawing a blank otherwise.

It is "Sabotage Agent" or alternatly "The Adventures of Tartu". I remember it under the later title. It was a good spy flick.

"Sabotage Agent" or "The Adventures of Tartu" (1943) was the movie I was looking for.

SPOTES and FrankC both nailed it...! What would I ever do without guys like them ...?

Despite my pathetic, vague, and considerably wrong recollections of the movie, they came up with the American and British titles to the movie that I was trying to find. SPOTS got the American title, "Sabotage Agent" and FrankC got the British title, "The Adventures of Tartu".

I guess I was wrong about the sabotage agent doing the key tossing trick twice to set the guard up to be fooled. Damn, I thought NASI guards would have been smarter than that. I'm glad that I said he snuck in either a gun or a bomb. I was almost right. It wasn't just a bomb, they were bombs.

Here is the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_azKRWn7WuA

Here is a link to what I believe is the entire movie:

http://www.youtube.com/results?hl=en&q= ... a=N&tab=w1

p.s. A sincere thank you to FrankC and SPOTES. :D

"Flight of the Navigator" (1986) is a good Disney time travel movie for those, who enjoy an adventure fantasy story. It is a sci-fi flick that you should watch with your kids or grandkids. They will love the movie, and if you still have a little bit of a kid left in you, you will love it too.

"The Mosquito Coast" (1986) probably isn't terribly obscure, but I doubt many have ever seen the movie. It stars Harrison Ford and River Phoenix. I think you will like the movie for a number of reasons. First of all the story is unlike any you have seen before. If you just read about it, you would think that it is a ridiculous plot, but if you watch it, you will love it. The acting is very good. It takes you through an emotional roller coaster ride ranging from humor to fear, and just about everything in between. This is not a movie where you will be able to guess what is going to happen next, and certainly not the ending. If you have never seen this movie, I strongly recommend that you do.

Here's the trailer:

(You might think the trailer jumps around a lot. That's because the movie does.)

(You might think the trailer jumps around a lot. That's because the movie does.)

I liked the movie, but my wife hated it. She thought I wanted to do the same thing. I just wanted to sell the house and buy a rwo masted schooner and sail the world with her and the kids.

Frank, give us some more movies that your wife hated and you liked. Give me a chance, and I can probably come up with a few that you both will hate.

How do you guys feel about the movie, "Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation"...?

"A Cry in the Dark" (1988) (Original title, "Evil Angels") starring Meryl Streep wasn't really a BGTUNA recommendation, but he indirectly referred to it in the "Dogs" thread, so I took it upon myself to bring it over here, and give him credit for it. It's a true story about an Australian woman on a camp out, who claims that a dingo dog stole her baby.

"A Dingo ate me baby!"

A once popular utterance at the now defunct Pargos in Winchester, VA to explain a missed question that kept one from a 14K CD or W/O game, usually reserved for failing on question 15.

BTW-- Has anyone mentioned the movie "Let It Ride", with Richard Dreyfus & David Johanssen (aka, Buster Poindexter).
