This is obscure because it is a short, but it is nominated for an Academy Award. I think it is a very nice little movie. "Adam and Dog" :
Note: edited by Dante -- the attached link may have been infected -- have had a report of someone who loaded it immediately being infected by a virus, apologies
Can you let me know the symptons. I or my wife do not seem to have any problems on our computers and my virus and security checkers report nothing.
Frank, here's what happened.
Last night I clicked on the link to "Adam and Dog". It was a cute cartoon, but about halfway through it a screen popped up from the "Internet Crime Complaint Center", and everything froze. It said:
"Your computer has been blocked. The work on your computer has been suspended on the grounds of the violation of the law of the United States. To unlock your computer and to avoid legal consequences, you are obligated to pay a release fee of $400."It went on to give me a number of options to pay the fine.
I knew this was bullshit, but my computer would no longer work no matter what I tried. I rebooted it a number of times, but could get no farther than the desktop, when the same damn thing kept popping up, and completely blocked all functions on my computer. I tried starting it in the Safe mode, but that did no good either. At this point I called DANTE, told him what was going on, and asked him if he could help me fix it. He gave me a number of ideas, but again nothing worked.
Today I talked to "PC Tuneup" and their people at Advancedtechsupport.com, who told me there is a good possibliity that it was just coincidental that the virus took over my computer, while I was watching "Adam and Dog". They said that there are sleeper viruses, that hide on people's computers for extended periods of time until something triggers them.
I think DANTE was just being cautious, when he removed the link from your post. You're probably okay, and the problem is most likely something that was on my computer.
Cloudy
p.s. I never got to see the rest of the cartoon. How does it end?
(Belated edit: The tech, who's fixing the infected computer, told me that this is the second time he has run into this virus in the last week. It looks to me like this may be the virus de jour.)
