I was approached by BWW, Bridgeport management about having another WVBTO, to which I quickly said, "NO!".
I explained the East/West split, taking the fun out of the nightly competition with the anti-meet-ups and a watered down competition pool. Plus, TOLLE & CHEESE do a great job with the 'palooza and summer is much easier to plan for, especially weatherwise & Cincy has other things to offer.
Well, after the third (free) beer (which is a LOT for me these days), I started thinking about it. Dan, the GM who helped with the first WVBTO, is back at the site and said he would take care of EVERYTHING, including booking rooms at he Wingate instead of the Microtel. (Remember the guy at the front desk at the Microtel shushing everyone before finally conceding the conference room to us...EGADS!!!).
So I texted my lawyer, SPIEGS, to see if I could have counsel present; ZEBRA, to make sure I needed counsel present; LUREED, since I would need a bouncer/bailiff; and NICO, just for a voice of reason. All seemed willing to make the trip to Hillbillyville, as long as the date was good. I'm going to text a few others who don't necessarily follow this forum.
GOBLUE was also advised of the potential meet-up (in case we need air support), which means TOOTS will find out sooner or later (insert JELL-O references).
I have not committed myself to this yet, but I really don't have to commit much. Dan said that he would handle it, and I'll probably be there playing trivia anyway, so why not throw it out there. Last year, TOLLE & CHEESE (dude was near death) popped in, along with Zeeb, Spiegs, Jets, Lureed, & Nico. Tripod also happened to be close enough to stop by Friday night. It was what I was hoping for when I planned the original WVBTO...my friends visiting, drinking & playing trivia.
Dan seems to think he can get the rooms for around $50, which is a great price. The area has grown somewhat, with a likker store next door (they sell legal moonshine from right up the road), as well as a DQ & Little Ceasars. Oh, and a car wash!
I had a great weekend last year, since I have to play solo mostly. I got told to be quiet because the "kids at the bar" were offended by my language (Pens v. Flyers game was on) & jumped on the EMS crash cart, thinking that it was my ride home (unfortunately, some other guy was having heart problems).
And this is not a bash or 'palooza like event, in that it will be disorganized, chaotic, lowkey, and probably much smaller, with a limited chance of success. There will be drink specials and some food specials, I was told. The PMs will limited to the number that the site already has on location, which is 40+ the last time I checked. I will recheck later this week...more than likely.
So, if anyone would like to sally forth to the hills of West By God in mid/late April (date to be determined by SPIEGS' agenda), feel free to let me know so I can work on the discounted room, or just show the fuck up and I'll deal with it then.
Oh, it will be ramp season!
