"The Hanging Tree" (1959) starring Gary Cooper and Karl Malden, was indirectly suggested on the previous page by FrankC. (I overlooked it, and decided that it should be posted, even though FrankC only posted the theme song from the movie.)

Here's some video from the movie:

"Walking with Dinosaurs" (1999- ) is a wonderful documentary series created by the BBC for TV. So far there have been six episodes, but if my memory serves me, there have been several more "Walking with..." episodes that are about other more recent prehistoric things than dinosaurs.

This series is phenomenal, the CGI couldn't be better, what they teach is extremely good, and they will make you feel like you are really walking with dinosaurs.

The "Walking with Dinosaurs" series is a high Cloudy recommendation. Not only will you enjoy them, but your kids or grandkids will love them too. Get them all, I promise you that you will not be disappointed.

Here's some video from one episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHNFGO6_DJY

p.s. The short video I gave you is but a very brief look at the wonderful, entertaining, and educational episodes that this series has to offer.

"Phantom from Space" (1953) is a typical black & white sci-fi monster movie from the 1950's. Most of you can skip this one, unless your curiosity overcomes your common sense. However, for any of you, who are sci-fi buffs, who want to see them all, this is one that you must see. It's a little goofy, but if you can trick your brain to think it's 1953 again, it ain't all that bad.

I actually watched the film last night. It has a little bit of mystery to it, and the high tech tracking cars, with the gigantic antennas on their roofs were kind of neat. However, it wasn't nearly as scary as it was the first time I saw it nearly 60 years ago.

Here's the trailer:

There is another movie I would love to find. It's one I saw many, many years ago. It was a black & white film, that most likely was made in the 1940's. The only thing I can remember about it was a scene where an airplane had to make a landing at an airstrip that had lost power to illuminate it's runway at night. It seemed like the aircraft was doomed to crash, until the villagers all turned out with their cars, lined both sides of the runway, and illuminated it with their headlights.

I'm banking on SPOTES, ICEMAN, or FrankC to come up with the title of this movie for me. (Of course, anyone else, who knows this movie is more than welcome to tell me its title also.)

Come on guys, you've done it before, and you can do it again. :D

Just got this on DVD, Stars George Peppard and Jan Michael Vincent. Kind of obscure, but it always stood out to me since I saw it as a kid. The vehicle used in the movie was called the Landmaster, it was created by Dean Jeffries who also created the iconic Monkees Mobile.

Another one is Night of the Comet. Its not as hokie as the movie cover suggests, but it is a B movie for sure.

"Damnation Alley" (1977) and "Night of the Comet" (1984) are great recommendations, Mundee...! I might have "Night of the Comet" somewhere in the catacombs of my basement, but I don't think I have "Damnation Alley", so I guess I'll have to visit Amazon.com tonight to pick it up.

Here's the trailer for "Night of the Comet":

ICEMAN, you didn't say if you liked it. Well, I guess it's too late now, because I'm about to buy "Damnation Alley" on Amazon.com as soon as I hit submit after this post.

Well, if you can put up with Jan Michael Vincent in the first place & Paul Winfield being eaten by mutant cockroaches, then yeah... It was worth the admission - at the time.

Good, I was hoping that you would give it a couple thumbs up. Well, if you and Mudee both think it's good, I can't wait for it to get here, tear it out of its bubble package, rip the cellophane off of it, and slide the DVD into my TV for an evening of exciting entertainment. :D

The Book "Damnation Alley" is far better than the movie. I recommend it if you can find a copy.

Frank, you are far better read than I am. How do you find the time to read so many books, while watching all the movies that you have...?

If you can, put the book you are currently reading down for a moment, and toss up another obscure movie that you think the rest of us might want to see. :D

"Tales from the Crypt" (1989-1996) was a great HBO sci-fi, horror anthology that I never watched on cable. I got into it on videos and DVD's. I don't have all of the 93 episodes, but I've got quite a few of them. I highly recommend this series to those of you, who enjoy this genre.

Here's the full video of one of its episodes, "Werewolf Concerto". (It runs for about 25 minutes):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8yEBKUlL5I

"Tales from the Crypt" is NOT for the squeamish, or those who are easily offended. It was a cable TV series, where anything goes.

p.s. There were also three full length "Tales from the Crypt" movies.

This thread has grown to 28 pages, and for those of you, who don't want to spend hours reading through them all, or might want to look for a specific obscure movie, TV program, etc., there is an index to every one mentioned or commented on, which you will find on page 23 of this thread. (I try to keep it updated as best I can, but if anyone finds a mistake, please let me know, and I will fix it.)

p.s. I posted this because we have several new guys, who might not have been aware of the index.

"Tales from the Darkside" (1983-1988) is another sci-fi, horror anthology TV series. Once again, I never watched it when it was on TV, but I have a number of the 80 episodes on video and DVD. I think they were pretty darn good, and I recommend "Tales from the Darkside" to those of you, who enjoy a little sci-fi and horror thrill every once in a while.

Here is the full episode of one of the stories, "If the Shoes Fit" (It runs for about 25 minutes):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b3ciAZm ... 651E6E6070

p.s. There was at least one full length feature "Tales from the Darkside" movie.

ICEMAN, Please forgive me, if I have already mentioned this TV series. I'm getting old, and sometimes I forget things. I'll try my best not to duplicate repeat posts in the future, but I can't promise that I won't screw up again.

p.s. I'll go back to the index on page 23 to see where I previously recommended "Tales from the Darkside".

(Belated edit: ICEMAN, your post that I just responded to has disappeared.) :?

Not your typical Jimmy Cagney vehicle. A bit of a Cold War era comedy. It has it's moments but not many.

"One, Two, Three" (1961) is a recommendation from ICEMAN, and it's a Billy Wilder film...! I thought I would expand on it, as I have often done with others' movie recommendations. I do this because I love their movie posters, and watching some video from them.

Here is the original movie trailer:

http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/2123 ... iler-.html

Here are two video clips from the movie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4RMwEYrOE8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaUnwmJoy4s

p.s. Seeing it was released in 1961, why is it in black & white...?

p.p.s. Okay, I guess I need to go to Amazon.com again, and pick up "One, Two, Three". (The movies you guys recommend, that I don't have, are depleting my beer money.)

(It's on its way...! I will watch it as soon as it arrives.)

Claymation is a genre that we have so far ignored. I think it's about time that the best Claymation series gets mentioned here. "Celebrity Deathmatch" (1998-2002 & 2006-2007) was a hoot, and I doubt many of you have ever seen any of the episodes. Yep, it was a little bit violent, but many of those celebrities deserved to get ripped to shreds in the ring.

I only have a few of the 75 plus episodes on VHS, but they were damn funny. I say, "Get them all...!" Hope your guy or gal wins, but you will have to watch them to find out.

Here's the link to the "Celebrity Deathmatch Ozzy Osbourne vs Elton John " episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU4q6-Lwx-s

p.s. There are so many of them, but I decided not to show any of the political ones, for fear that DANTE might bring his heavy hammer down on me.

Cloudy, I remember two movies where the runway was lighted by headlights and one movie where the runway was lighted by burning oil poured into drainage ditches on the sides of the runway. Unfortunately, I do not remember the names.

Thanks Frank, it would be the movie with cars lining the runway. Can you remember anything else about it?

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember a movie with burning oil along the sides of the runway also.

"Breaking the Sound Barrier" (Original British title was "The Sound Barrier") (1952) was a fictionalized story of British aerospace engineers trying to solve the problem of supersonic flight. There was a lot of drama in it, but I liked the flying stuff better. My dad really liked this movie, and I saw it on TV once with him, when I was a kid.

The British footage of the movie on "You Tube" was okay, but really wasn't very exciting. The Japanese footage was much better, so that is what I'm going to show. Don't worry, the audio is in English. Yeah, the closed captions are in Japanese, but this will give you a chance to learn Kanji. :D

Enough of the apology, let's watch it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in4rpJ2PLHA

p.s. As hard as the Brits might have tried, it was an American, Chuck Yeager, who first broke the sound barrier in the Bell XS-1 in 1947.

"No Highway in the Sky" (1951), starring James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich, is another great airplane movie that focuses on aeronautical engineering, with a lot of drama thrown in. Yeah, my dad liked this one too, but so did I. If you have never seen it, I recommend that you do.

Here's the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAejZLf4CUM

p.s. Santa's flying reindeer have never had a problem, but the Reindeer airplane did...
