There have been several sequels, however, I still think the original "Castle Wolfenstein" is a classic, if not the best of the series. Good luck trying to find this game, because I don't think it ever made it beyond a 5 1/4 floppy disc made for DOS. It might still be out there to download that could be played, if you have the right computer game emulator.

I kicked butt on this game, and I know a few tricks that make it easier for your little guy to escape Castle Wolfenstein.

Anyone else ever play this early computer game from the 1980's?

Sid Meier's, "Pirates" is a great game that will keep you occupied for weeks. Though I have not played it for a couple of years, I still consider myself as an expert on the game.

I completed every mission (task) the game had to offer. This is next to impossible to do, unless you figure out how and when to keep your crew happy. (This has something to do with divvying up the booty.) You must also learn the trick of dancing with the governor's daughters.

I accumulated more wealth than you can imagine, and I outfought every big time pirate I came up against.

Somewhere on the "Old ScaRatings" there is a list of my accomplishments in this game. All modesty aside, I may be the best ever to play this game. If you can figure out what to do, you can play Sid Meier's "Pirates" game pretty much forever. (I'm talking about playing one game forever, not starting new games over and over.)

p.s. One tip I'll throw out there is not to sink the enemy ships, if you can help it. Blast away at them until they are forced to surrender. Then board them and take the booty that they are carrying. If you sink them, all of that booty winds up in Davy Jones' locker, you get no sailors to defect to you, and you have no ship to salvage.

p.p.s. Actually, this game is quite educational. After sailing around the Caribbean from island to island, and going ashore on mainland countries you will learn a great deal. (The geography is real in this game.)

The "Myst" series of games are a must challenge for anyone who dares to call themselves a gamer. All of them are extremely good and extremely difficult. Very few will ever be able to complete them without having to resort to a walkthrough at some point.

Here is what I believe to be the complete list of "Myst" and its sequels:

1- "Myst" (1993)

2- "Riven" (1997)

3- "Myst III: Exile" (2001)

4- "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst" (2003)

5- "Myst IV: Revelation" (2004)

If you have never played any of these games, you need to, and I've got a feeling that you can pick them up these days for a fraction of what I paid for them when they originally came out. I wouldn't be surprised if you won't find them offered for sale as a bundle somewhere.

p.s. There is also the satire game called "Pyst". It isn't a real game. It just makes fun of the original game of "Myst".

p.p.s. (Belated post) Thanks to ZOG741 pointing this out to me, I need to add " Myst V: End of Ages" to the list of Myst games.

There was also Myst V: End of Ages. I believe this game came out in 2005, and is the last game of the Myst series. I have all the games. :)

Damn it, you are right...! Just checked my bookcase of games, and son-of-a-gun "Myst V: End of Ages" is sitting there. Don't think I've ever played it, so you have given me something to do after I finish the games I'm currently struggling through.

Thanks for the tip.

ZOG, tell us about the games you have played.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

For the most part these are boring games. Don't be fooled by the exotic box artwork or the exciting description of the game. Look for the words in small print "Hidden object game".

There is one that isn't too bad. If you feel compelled to play a "hidden object" game, try "Mystery Legends: Sleepy Hollow". If you are a "Sherlockian", as I am, I guess you have to play "The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes". There were one or two others that weren't too bad, but it's too late tonight for me to remember them.

p.s. For some reason, Hidden Object games seem to be proliferating. My guess is this is because they are cheap and easy to make. I am sure that there will be many more to come.

My crew eats limes three times a day, and they always wear protection from sexual diseases. No, we never suffered from scurvy or syphilis as we sailed the Queen Anne's Revenge (Yep, we captured her from Black Beard.) around the Spanish Main, kicking butt, winning booty, conquering villiages, defeating armies, winning sword fights, and out dancing geeks in all of the governors' ball rooms.

Come on SPOTES, find your sea legs, get a crew, and sail the Spanish Main. The Queen Anne's Revenge will be waiting for you.

p.s. It's really a pretty good game, and if you haven't played it yet, I recommend you do.

Haven't played it yet, but there is another "Liesure Suit Larry" game. "Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust" is the latest game in this off color computer game series. The reviews of this game that I have read, have been for the most part fairly negative. However, if you are a cyber "Lounge Lizzard" type guy, I think you should give it a try. All of the pevious "Leisure Suit Larry" games were a lot of fun, and pretty damn funny.

I've moved this game to the front of the line of my computer games to play next list.

p.s. I don't think we have seen the last of the "Leisure Suit Larry" games yet...

Good news for all of you "Girlie Men" computer game players...

There is a new Nancy Drew computer game about to come out. "Nancy Drew: Trail of the Twister" should start showing up on the shelves within the next two months.

Forget that "Girlie Men" joke I put up there. All of the "Nancy Drew" games are good and fun to play. As you play these games, think of yourself as a wise male looking over Nancy's shoulder, helping her to solve the mysteries.

p.s. Gotta run down to the kitchen. Need to get the cake I'm baking out of the oven. Sure hope I don't break a nail this time.

Nancy Drew is just the female version of the Hardy Boys. I read both series years ago in grade school. My girlfriend had the Nancy Drew books and I had the Hardy Boys. We exchanged books. That is all we exchanged.

The "Minesweeper" game has come with all of the versions of Windows for many years. It is a game that involves pure logic for a while, but ultimately forces one to make a guess or two. I'm pretty good at this game. Perhaps there are some of you out there who are better than I am at this game. Every time I buy a new computer I lose all of my old fastest times, and have to start all over again.

Here are the best times I currently have on the computer I now have:

Beginner "Minesweeper" game 17 seconds.

Advanced "Minesweeper" game 417 seconds.

(Haven't played the Intermediate "Minesweeper" game on my current computer yet.)

Anyone else ever play "Minesweeper"...? If so, what are your best times...?

Besides Nancy Drew there is a series of Hardy Boys computer games out there also. Haven't played the Hardy Boys games yet, but they are on my list of games to get and play.

There was a guy at my Mother's work who had a pretty old computer. The school district was trying to replace it, his plan was to retire the day he got all the minesweeper games finished on his computer. He only played at lunch. He even had a 'hearing' with the school board about his goals, he did his work, he worked hard, it was just his own simple time frame for retirement. He came back from vacation, saw the new computer, decided there wasn't enough time to finish the new version. He checked over his sick time, his leave time, and put in his notice, so he could use his sick days and such and retired that day, with proper two weeks notice to start his 'leave' before retirement.

Finally catching up on Scar's site.

Pong was a cartridge for the Atari 2600, but I think it was called something other than "Pong". Might have been Video Olympics. I know it has versions that were refered to as Basketball, Soccer, Hockey and Volleyball. If the Odysee had a game called Pong, I'm not sure. I can download the emulator/cartridges and find out.

Personally, I'm currently hooked on the card game Freecell on the Windoze OS. You can select which game layout you want to play, and I got an idea to try to finish them all. I selected game 1, finished it, then selected 2, 3, ........ I'm now up to 260, with a total of 100,000 in their databank.

I used to have a MAME machine (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator), on which I could play any arcade machine from the mid 70's to the late 90's (some more current, but I didn't download them). Fun to turn it on and play the original arcade style Pac Man, Defender, Tempest, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and find some that I didn't know from that era.

I tired play my step son's Wii, not too bad, just not my style. The PS3 and XBox are out of my era. Anything beyond one joy stick and one button are not my cup of tea. Also too many war/action games, not enough arcade style games.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :) One of the things I hated about Defender and Stargate were that they had too damned many buttons!

I've used MAME as well (although I'll have to reinstall it on my newer computer. Great way to get back to the classic arcade games! :)
