Hi Buzztimenation,

Any chance the new BT app can be expanded to include older iOS versions like 5.1.1? We have some players that have older iPads that are fully updated as far as they can go but can't download the "new question app". The app says iOS 8.0 or higher. There are millions of older iPads out there that would make a perfect low cost playmaker with large buttons so people can keep their cell phones free for "important" stuff.

Remember the age demographic for current players is probably 50 to 75, so lots of older tablets around that they could use when the BT tablets die from bad batteries or are just removed from bars.

Thanks for any answers and thank you for being on Scar.

Bottom line is, until the new BT app runs all games properly, with the countdowns and the clues, the app will not serve as a viable substitute for tablets or playmakers if the bar chooses not to make a TV screen show the game at all times.

Oh and network scores, too.

We played tonight in hopes that the new update would support Showdown. No luck. Now that you have SIX working, Buzztime, PLEASE get Showdown working next. My teammates are getting restless.

Since my mom is in the hospital, and that happens to be quite near a BWW, I have been giving the app a workout. Even played a couple Late Shift games, which I haven't played in forever...

I like the fact that since it's a in a Wipeout format, the answers actually do wipe out so that you can play the same game the bars are playing. (Hint to the Buzzies: If for some reason you can't successfully program clues into Countdown on the app, going to a Wipeout format for that game would be fine with me, even if you have to do the same in the bar game to make it work.)

Best news, the app is NOT a bad battery-eater at all... On my iPhone 8+, 90 minutes of play typically uses up some 15-20 percent. Certainly workable, in my book... I think most game apps take more battery than that for the same time of play...

I am sitting here in Cameron’s... Just got IOS13. Fabulous update...

But it appears the Buzztime app’s location services have bitten the big one. Says I’m 2.26 miles from Cameron’s. I am IN Cameron’s.

Everything else I’ve tried with the new IOS is absolutely spot-on, location-wise.

Tried again tonight at a different location, a BWW. Now with 13.1 installed in the iphone.

Works like a charm.

According to Buzztime, the new 0.9.2 version of the app now comes with hints for the games.

Tried the new version last night at BWW Concord, CA.

Worked fine, clues and all.. but still no countdown so ya don't know what your answer is worth until after the q ends.

I noticed that there were no tablets at this BWW, but the chargers were still on the walls. And they didn't have the game on a TV screen, so the chances of any potential new player discovering the game on his/her own are about.... 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001. (give or take a decimal place or two...)

However, it was a very busy sports night with tons of different sports on... and lots of folks watching said sports.

When I made the first review of the tablets (in 2013) one bug report was of that significant delay between the monitor and the tablet. In that time it has not been fixed nor any suggestions for improving player experience on the tablets addressed which has been more than irritating. And if the app indeed matches the monitor, if they don't bring the tablet up to speed after all these years......

Image

We had delay issues up the wazoo last night with the tablets. Everything worked fine up through the 6:30pm game. Then starting with the next game, with 8 tablets in play, at least one or two tablets scored a 0 on each question. It happened to a different tablet each time. The problem got progressively worse after that, as there were times that only one or two tablets got points on a question while the rest of the tablets got zero.

The owner rebooted the system during the 8:00pm game, but it didn't fix the problem.

To demonstrate just how bad the lag was...

When you logged in, it would take up to a minute to get the "I thought I recognized you" screen.

Then it would take another minute to accept the password. Sometimes, the lag was so bad that the password failed due timing out & it suggested to play as a guest instead.

During the # round of Playback (I don't even know why we were still bothering to play at this point since it was worthless) when you get 1000 if you hit the answer on the first go round, and 250 if you get it on the second go around... There were times when we hit the answer for 1000 and still only got 250. Also times when we hit an incorrect answer on the first go round, hit the correct answer in the second go round for 250, only to still get -250 since the lag didn't recognize the change in time.

The final question was quite comical. I figured it would accept the wager, then not register the answer, and a bunch of boards would lose 50%. Instead the problem occurred on the wager screen itself. Only three boards took a wager, everyone else got a 0 wager. What a night.

POMAN, I take it that trouble was at Sunny Jim's. With the smaller mom and pop places I would look to their internet connection after rebooting the BT computer with no luck. Sometimes a reboot of the internet router works?

Do they have public wifi? If so how was the connection? Any phones or iPads using the wifi to play? How did they do?

Excellent job on pulling off the 8th place finish with that trouble. The XDJ box had a 65K, avoided lag trouble the whole time?

Someone brought up wifi with the owner. He mentioned he had installed a new router the week before because too many customers were complaining about the wifi not working.

None of us have the app since Playback isn't available on it yet (and none of us play on tablets).

I dove into our scores to see how many questions each board answered. Most were between 31 - 35 answers, but Xdj got to 48 on his board. Although... he had his other board right next to that one, and his other board only took 31 answers. Go figure.

Not that it really matters because issues like this suck regardless, but here's what I think happened on the final question.

In SD (and PB used to be the same) you cannot not make a wager. If you don't touch a button the wager defaults to 50%. And here's an interesting quirk to this. If you have an odd total, press 5 to wager 50%, your wager will round down. If you have an odd total, press nothing on the box, you will wager 50% and the wager will round up. This gains a whole point, ha! I haven't actually make a wager in SD in well over 10 years.

But if you don't attempt to answer the final question, you receive 0 points regardless of wager. This is the only way to receive 0 that I know of.

So judging by what you've said, the lag was so bad some boards weren't able to get the wager in in time thereby defaulting to 50%. But then those boards also didn't record the answer in time, and received 0.

I would have thrown something well before the final question!

There is a new version of the BT app as of today 3/24/20. It's version 0.9.6/1 which replaces 0.9.5/4.

The main 2 improvements are adding Playback to the app and making Leaderboard improvements. Not sure what that means as I can't test it because I'm stuck at home 12 miles from Stained Glass Pub SS, which is closed except for carry out but the BT computer is still on. I hope it means there are now National rankings to be seen on the phone app. Or it could just be the in bar game ending score screen.

Can someone within 2 miles of a bar check it out.
I was hoping the update would open the radius up, but it didn't.

It shows all rankings, just as if you’re there (except internal rankings in-between questions). Also, the font for the answer choices has been darkened, which is nice improvement.. Kudos to the Buzzies for a job well done..

It shows rankings...

All of them? Top 20 Bar rankings, top 20 Individual rankings, everything we see in the bar?

Yes BUD. Top 20 Sites and Top 20 Individual Players. Also does local site leaderboard at the end of the game. I noticed after question 5 and question 10 in Countdown it showed your local site leaderboard. I can't remember seeing that after question 4 in Lunchtime.

Just got an email that the location radius restriction has been increased to 20 miles. Woohoo!

Hopefully Showdown support in the app won't be far off!

The radius has now been opened up, seems like a 20 mile radius. Used to be 12 miles to bar now says 0, connected right in.

THANK YOU BUZZTIME!!

I have already tested it for Lunchtime trivia and it works fine. It does show network rankings.

With Buzztime removing the connection restriction, all of us players can now start accruing medals and Top 100s once again.

Sure is awesome!

Playing Countdown right now, connected to Mad river which is 18 miles from my house as the crow flies.

I've alerted a couple of my teammates form the old Houlihan's Westbury location. Mad River was our geographical rival. Any port in a storm I guess!

Just scored a 12,009. Good for 96th place.

BT, it's good to have you back!

If anyone at BT reads this, thank you very much for opening up the radius.

According to the picture in the email I received, there are a couple of hot girls playing Buzztime somewhere.

Anybody seen them?
